I heard something at the last cruise night about some closed down airport runway in Georgia that was holding top speed events. Anyone heard of this ?

There is Maxton in North Carolina which is an old runway. Not sure about Georgia, though?

The Eastcoast Timing Assoc. runs 5 events a year. Three have already happened and the last two are scheduled for Sept. 23-24 and Oct 28-29. Maxton is a small town just North of the SC border just off I-95. The event is held at Laurinburg-Maxton Airport. There is an unused two mile runway that is well away from the operational airport. It is definately worth a trip to see. Check it out at www.ecta-lsr.com (http://www.ecta-lsr.com).

Mike, it actually has more than 2 miles. The turn off is at almost 2 miles..there's nearly another mile past that in case something goes sour..it's not in great shape though...

Bob, I knew it was somewhat more than two miles. I walked some of it last April. It is a little rough, but is good enough for ECTA's purpose. If you're gonna be there in Sept. so will I. That is the week after the Pigeon Forge deal. I can't run the Tempest there since it has no roll cage. Right now I'm pulling parts together to build a car that can.

The schedule on ECTA says the weekend of SEPT 23 and 24th. I'll see you there !
I've even got a little tune running through my head now. I'm humming " Maxton " to the tune of Johnny Cash's
" Jackson ". " I'm goin' to Maxton ".

Hell they'd even let Howell in..if he had enough the money for a ticket..you can run a street car as long as you don't go over 135 mph..Howell will be there Full Monte..

ummm....mine will hit 150 i think....but i can keep it under 135. I do have a cage but I dont think is "certified". Mark up at SC&C did my cage...but it was only meant to be a "street" cage. hhmmmm.....do I have to be a member to run?

Spectator fee is $5.00 a day. For the rules and costs of running go to www.ecta-lsr.com (http://www.ecta-lsr.com).

You will probably take I-85 over to Charlotte as the most direct route...I take I20 over to I95 and then up....or take the byways thru Rockingham, etc....

so who all is going to this event????

JEFFTATE

If my car survives the Pigeon Forge Event , I will be driving it to Maxton.
It's old and needs restoration and improvements.

I am old and if I survive that long I plan to make it over:revto9k:

JEFFTATE

I have looked at Mapquest and I believe I will either go up I-85 to Charlotte and then 74 South to Maxton OR I-20 East to I-95 North
and then Hwy 130 North to Maxton.
It all depends on who wants to go also.
I'll take either route.
We can all follow each other.

Hey Jim ! You can go with me ! Maybe . If my car survives the Pigeon Forge event.

I don't expect mine to survive! That's okay, anything that breaks neede to be upgraded anyway!

JEFFTATE

That's right. Everthing that vibrates , makes abnormal noises , or breaks needs to be replaced . That's how I convince Rhonda to let me spend more on the car. But, then I can't complain when she buys some new clothes. I have to bite my tongue.

My Roebling event on Friday 22 Sep just got moved to 29 Sep so it is looking real good to make it there:cool: . I have a 68 Camaro (he is building Motion "Heritage" car) I am slotted to install springs and rear discs on so if I can get that buttoned up I am good to go.

When are folks planning on leaving and how long you staying at the event?

JEFFTATE

I cant get off work Friday, so I'm going very early Saturday. If i'm not too tired , I'll drive up Friday night. I'll stay Sat. night and most of the day Sunday. Then drive home Sunday night/evening

Very early Saturday works for me - especially since I am at exit 190 on I-20. I will probably come back home Sat night......

It might be sufficient to run 150

It might be sufficient to run 150 They let Vettes run 150 because of the roof structure
