I'm rebuild my current Camaro, and thought of the one that was stolen. Then I thought, what if I dump a bunch of money into this and some how someone comes knocking on my door.

So I tried entering my 69 VINs in ****** and it didn't like the VIN. I'm guessing that its because it 14 digit and not the newer 17 digits. Is there a Used Car service that would track history based on the old VIN numbers or is there a way to enter a 14 digit VIN to make it to the 17 digit format?

Try your local police department.

I've contacted the Seattle police department electronically today, so I'll see if they respond. But I don't recall my report number, so don't know if they can look it up, for back in Dec 1988.

On my current one, I purchased the rolling chassis in Texas and transferred the title to my name back around 1993. Transferred it to a Michigan title, now that I'm back up here. So those went through, but wouldn't mind checking the history.

If you go to your local DMV and have them do a search. If it doesn't come up on their system then you can have it bonded. If an owner does come up and try to claim it in the future they would have to pay your bond to get the car back.

BUT since it has been changed over already you should not have to worry about it.
