I'm upgrading my 79 Z28 brakes with C5 units front and rear. The fronts require cutting the spindle ( steering knuckle) to mount the new caliper bracket. I'd rather not cut up the originals if possible.

Does the aftermarket make stock height spindles? I don't want to use the aftermarket dropped spindles if possible.

Thanks!

John

I believe you can still buy them from GM

It shouldn't be hard to find an used set of spindles on ebay or 2nd gen websites. You can have them all ready for the day of the swap.

What's it costing to swap to c5 brakes all around?

Call Baer and ask where they get theirs. When they sell a kit for a late 2nd Gen, they come delivered on 2" dropped spindles. They have to get em from somewhere...

Get a set of spindles from a '78-up Caprice wagon, the ones with the 12" discs. They have the bigger outer bearing (A3). Then use discs from a '79-81 G-body with the same outer bearing, and has the correct bolt circle (5x4.75"). These discs (as a hub) also brings the disc mounting surface closer to the spindle by roughly the same distance the C5 brakes adds to the track width hub to hub. Almost same as stock is the result. This upgrades your front suspension, and allows you to put your stock parts on the shelf.

I have a set of OE ones off my 77 if you want them. I did the 12" b-body change.
