Ok so this is probably a total "n00b" question but here it comes:

How should I torque my stock cylinder heads on my '89 350TBI engine? Is there a certain pattern and to what torque should i tighten them?

All knowledge and experience is welcome

Thanks,

There is a specific order, but it follows the "start from the middle and work your way out principle". About any service manual has it in there for an SBC. If I had access to a scanner I could do it for you.

Now that I know how to torque them on, how do I get them off in the first place. I took all bolts off, and attempted to lift the heads off by inserting a wrench into the water ports and heaving ho but nada.

I would double check to make sure you have all the bolts out, its kinda easy to miss one. then maybe stick a longer prybar in the water ports and heave ho.

I see you live in prescott valley, do you ever go to the dirt track races up there?

Take a mallot and give the head a few smacks on the face. Then use a prybar in an exhaust port. S/B easy from there. It also depends on the gasket quality. Crappy gaskets stick everything together really bad. I always suggest at least the Fel-Pro blue stripe gaskets.

have you been able to get your heads off? if the prybar in the port dont work I have had to gently tap a screwdriver between the head and block to get the head to loosen up, just be careful not to gouge the deck.

If you ever get out to the track I pit for the 007 modified, we will be there sat night to see if we can put a win on the board.
