He was having a auction here in Springfield, Mo. and unveiled his newest car. The build quality looked very good and i did not see another car there with the door gaps and fittament that the Boyd cars had.

It was funny because i would never have noticed that kind of stuff in the past but after reading this board for a while I have become pretty picky about cars!!
I was also shocked to see what looks like MarkM68s Nova on the auction block :yum:

It looked great! I beleive it was one of the few pro-touring cars i saw... I was shocked at how many nice muscle cars were still on factory a-arms, wheels, springs, etc...
Damn True

That's Mark Muttert's Nova. At unless he's sold it.

Hey, do I know you from here? Got any pics of your car? I live in Springfield too. I forgot (kind of!) about the auction and worked instead. Was it good? Big money? Or any good deals?

I thought the auction had a pretty good turn out. Considering it's location, and it's first time. Springfield really isn't by any big cities.
The turn out of cars was better then I expected, but I don't think there were a whole lot of buyers. I'd guess less then 10% sold.
Since it was fairly close to me, I decieded to put my car in it. My car got pretty close to the reserve, but I didn't let it go. I never had a car in an auction before, but I enjoyed the experience.

you said it got pretty close..was it the auctioneer shilling the bid or was there a real bid? They usually tell you if you have real money and it gets anywhere near the reserve, and they start beating you up to lower the reserve

a 10% sale percentage is miserable. They did a ton of advertising on this auction. Hopefully he rented that facility on a percentage basis..if not they lost a lot of money. Barrett Jackson makes it look real easy. Ebay tried it by buying Kruse..promptly lost a few hundred million at least. Dean Kruse bought it back and I seriously doubt he is making it work. R&M, Mecum, Barrett are the ones making the real money. Poor ol Boyd just can't get a break. At least he has a good looking wife.

Is it possible that doing American Hotrod, Coddington's TV show, hurt his rep or business? I was turned off by the show myself. I don't think his product is any less good, but the everyday workings of a shop are sometimes best left out of the spotlight. Still, he does everyday, what I wouldn't ever have the priviledge or knowledge of doing.
I was turned off by the show too. Biggest thing is that Boyd appears to be more of a business man than a craftsman. I think working there would get old very quick.

I think there are skeletons that have come out of his closet that have hurt him more than the show

Boyd for a very long time

I heard that Scotty Gray was making an ass of himself and pissed off a few buyers as well. If the bid would stall, Scotty would get up a flap his arms like a chicken at the other bidders to try and get them to bid more. What an idiot.
My dad was there for the auction and said the green 59 impala with the matching bike went for $385,000 (Real Money) and the guy turned it down.

It was a real bid. When my car came up, one of the guys asked me what my bottom dollar was and I told him. He asked me again during the bidding, and I just told him again, and that was that. No real beating.
There is a results section on the web site. Nothing posted yet though. Seems most every car still had a "I'm availible" sign in the window after the auction.

Doesn't sound real to me..believe me, if it gets close, they will be pounding you to death..they will cut their commission or anything to get a deal done..especially if they aren't selling but 10%. Don't believe anything you see at most auctions. Barrett Jackson is one of the few that you can believe most of what you see.

I seriously doubt that was $385 real was real money unless you personally knew the bidder. I reserve my opinion of Scotty Gray.

I guess anything is possible. I didn't see them doing that to any sellers though.

Marty Hill (Ring Man) was telling us what the car brought and he couldn't believe the guy turned it down. Either way, I think the auction was a disappointment for a lot of people.

Well go thing I forgot about it,I was going to bring some stuff down to sell.Sound's like it was on the shadey side to say the least.
I think Boyd's quailty took a big **** over the last couple years,Plus they haven't built anything real killer in years too. When was the last ridler or AMBR built there not since Foose left,To me they build average cars at best.

I think i met you once a couple years ago at the strip in rogersville, I really enjoied hearing the turbos screaming down the track!
I am still putting my car together, it has been a slow project since my wife is still in school;we have been focusing on making sure she graduates with no loans (talk about a budget killer)
Here is a link, If all goes well she should be on the road by next summer.

That's for sure. Boyd doesn't do any of the work himself so staff is critical.

then you didn't see any cars getting real close money to the reserve..It's not only possible, it's just the way the business is done..period..after you watch a 100,000 or so run like I have, you kinda see what's going on up there..and most of it is bull****

I guess you're convinced it was bs.
Like I said, it got pretty close. So what would they of done if I would of accepted that final bid, and it wasn't real money?
