On my 05 chevy truck that was stolen that is. They were trying to give me $27,000 for it and I told them heck no since KBB.com is saying that it is worth $31,000. They came back with $29,000 and I told them not unless that is what the blue book says and nothing less. Also the $1,300 in extended warranty that I was out also. Well, I finally got the check and it was for $32,000+, SWEET!! So I am happy about that.
BUT, 3 days later it showed up about 45 minutes away from here. I went up and looked at it and there was not a friggin' scratch on it!:jawdrop: Everything had been taken out of it and it had 1,287miles on the trip meter that I had reset the night before, but not a scratch, even underneath! It looked (and smelled) like a crackhouse ashtray inside, but still cleanable.
So I talked to the insurance co and asked about buying it back and they said ok. I asked how much and they said the same that they paid me. :screwy: I asked her if she was crazy since it now has a salvage title, no warranty and I do not know the condition of the running gear since it has been stolen. She told me ok then it will go to the salvage pool to see what they can get out of it. Why would they do this instead of selling it to me for salvage price? Seems like it would be alot less hassle to sell it back to me.

Why do you want it back? Just get a new truck.

I'm Glad You Were Paid!! It Sounds Like She Has Ego Issues And Was Just Trying To Impress You With Her Power... I'm Sure The Manager Responsible For Loss Control Would Be More Than Interested To Speak With You On A Deal!! Good Luck And Congrats On Full Payment!

Everybody hates Ins Co's but you got paid what you wanted so like her I do not understand why you would also want it back at a reduced amount?
Trucks bring more than you could imagine at auction so that is part of it. In your state a vehicle is branded with a salvage title if there are no damages??? I never heard of that? Usually it is branded depending on the % of damages VS the value.
Last the biggest reason is it sounds suspicious that you would argue to get paid basically retail value than want the truck back at a reduced amount. You would than have the retail value and the truck. Sorry but look at it through her eyes that sees hundreds of suspicious claims a year.
Not bashing you just trying to get you to see the other side of the argument. Glad you got the amount you were looking to get but not sure about getting both?

How do you know what the salvage price is until they run it thru auction..see if you can go to the auction or if it's dealer only. You should be able to buy it back pretty cheap with a salvage title..It's common practice and has been for years for insurance companys to put a salvage title on recovered vehicles. Kinda strange since the loss comes out of their pocket but that's the way it works. If it's dealer only auction, find a friend that's a dealer and pay him a couple hundred to buy it for you..only problem is you will have to pay sales tax on it again..
I would NEVER buy back a stolen vehicle! Those 1200 miles will be the hardest miles you can imagine. Cut your losses and get a different truck.
Our province run insurance co. plays the low ball game all the time. They use the idea that most people accept the first offer to they get off cheap.

I didnt realize if it was recovered and they gave you a check that you got to keep the money. I always thought you had to give the check back, they repair any damages and give you your car back.

Everyone I've spoken to say that once a check is cut, the claim is settled.
If it's going to get branded with a salvage title, stay away from it. It's not worth the trouble. Especially if your registration was cancelled due to the theft.

Well I talked to another adjuster today. HE said that since the title is still at the insurance agents office and had not yet went thru the "system" that it can be a clear title. But I have already signed the back, so don't know how that works. He said that he would drop it down to $28,000 and sell it back to me. Told him no thanks :moon:.
I was wanting it back only if I could get it back for cheap. I mean seriously, If I could get a super nice, (I know almost all the history!) 2005, crew cab, 2500, 4wd for around $15,000, I would be all over it! Espicially being that I would have just gained around $15,000!:twothumbs I would prolly drive the thing for several years and then just turn it into a "work truck" for the business till it dies.
But I am stoked that they gave me what the book is and I did not get hurt too bad. Other than about $4,000 worth of tools and stuff inside that they did not pay for. So, time for a new truck.
