Another Black Eye For Bostons Big Dig!!

Well the sh*ts gonna hit the fan in Boston. Anyone from this area already heard about it Im sure but yesterday a 3 TON piece of concrete CEILING came crashing down in the Ted Williams tunnel and killed a 36 year old woman. Yup that was part of the BIG DIG as well that was build in 1999. So far it seems that the support clips used to put it in place WERE NOT THE RIGHT ONES. They used the right ones in some of the areas and have apparently used the wrong ones in other areas including the part that came crashing down. My guess is that they were pressed for time or money and used what ever they had available to get it done!!

Sad that this had to happen. Everyone in Boston knows the Big Dig was just a BIG CORRUPTION Scam for many politicians, officials and contractors. It cost taxpayers millions and millions of dollars, alleviated NOTHING as far as traffic and has had more problems than any other project in the country!! WATER found its way pouring into two of the tunnels and they will never ever solve the mess and crappy workmanship put into this problem. Sadly this will not be the last disaster related to the big dig fiasco. Just another BLACK EYE FOR BEAN TOWN!!!:hand:

That sucks! That's a lot of money spent and a lot of time...and now people have to hope they make it out alive everytime they drive through.

Aren't they still working on the Big Dig? I was there 3 years ago and it was a big mess. We took public transit and walked. We had a great time taking in all the history.

Billions over budget, years overdue, overlooked major train station location, horrid craftsmanship, corruption on every conceivable level and all paid for by MA and federal tax money. We can't even sue or really prosecute anyone for this catastrophic disaster of a civil engineering project because the legislators, fat-cat "elected" officials and construction companies are all sleeping together. The taxpayers get screwed by insane taxes plus tolls, then we risk getting flattened while using the tunnels and after that no one is held accountable. I'm movin outta this hell hole as soon as I can.

Having worked in boston this last year for 4 weeks and driving through these tunnles I can't help appreciate what was accomplished with the tunnles. I saw some pieces of the old green hiway that sat hi off the ground right next to some sky scrapers and where they turned some of the areas of where it ran into green grass.
Its the last place on earth I would want to drive. I got some stories there.

Not that its any comfort, but here in San Diego we have our fair share of corrupt legislators.

Take for example our roads. Granted Southern California does not face snow, ice with salt and sand and the like, but our cities budget for road maintenence was something like $70,000 a year. Our cities budget for pensions was something like $300 million a year.

The roads here are crap, potholes literally 6-8" deep almost everywhere. All the new construction downtown looks real nice, but I think i understand why people have SUV's, so they don't jarr their colons loose driving around here.

I've been through them a few times , They are quite an accomplishment of construction but I hold my breath every time and I'm not sure I'll go back through any time soon!!!:scared: They just didn't have anybody legit watching them build it.

I hear you. I love living in CA. I don't care about the potholes, that's what I have a steering wheel for. I dodge them. :) I know where everyone of them is in my area...I have to with my car being sooooo low.

I was in Boston 2 years ago with my Wife on a little mini-vacation. I loved taking in all the history. But that Big Dig looked like a major pain in the ass for commuters. I feel your pain.

It's no secret Michigan has horrible roads. Many blame this on the weather, but there is another reason. The state of Michigan uses 2 different contractors to do all our road construction. Angelo Iafrate and John Carlo. Problem is...it's rumored they have ties to the mob and purposely use substandard concrete so that our roads will fall apart in 10 years and have to be repaved. As it is a new road here lasts about 5 years before the asphalt and tar guys have to be called in. And there's speculation they're all mobbed-up too.

Yeah, I think a lot of our construction problems are indirectly related to the mob too. It's always the "nose to the grindstone", too busy to pay attention tax payer that gets screwed.

Live in Boston currently. The crap with the tunnels is bad for sure. But late at night when the road is mostly clear. There is NOTHING like the sound of a Pontiac V-8 bouncing off the tunnel walls. You guys should come on up. I am BBQ right now. And of course drinking cheap beer.
