Why is it if you have a choice of "Plain" or "with logo" valve covers or air cleaner (speed parts in general) the logoed parts cost more? Why should I pay more to do the advertising for these companies?

What say you?

I do not pay any product to advertise their stuff. I ordered some stuff fron Summit the other day, order processor ask, "woud you like to buy a Summit Racing tee shirt for just $11'? I said no, I will not pay to advertise you, but I would take a couple free ones and wear them (to the shop, LOL!), one XXL and one XL. They came with the order, free.

I HATE logo'd parts.. unless the logo itself is so cool that it adds something to the party.

My biggest example of this is Ron Davis and Griffin radiators and how they spray paint their name in huge letters across the radiator so it's seen through the grill.. and they do it in freakin blue.

Like I want to see that in the front of my car. I don't really mind Wilwood on my calipers (guess Im used to see a name there) but I ground the FAST logo off my intake.

Again, when I pay full hit for a part I really don't feel obliged to pimp thier products unless it's MY choice to do so (because I like thier stuff so much)

My Griffin radiator didn't come painted I guess it's because it was a univrsal radiator.

I hate seeing manufacturers names all over car parts as well. Chris Alston's name is stamped into the inner fenders of my Nova. The clip also came with a sticker (removed) on the rack. If I could figure a way to remove the name from the inner fenders easily I would.

That's like these people who buy Nike hats and Nike T-shirts with the swish logo on it. Why would you pay money to advertise for a major conglomerate?" And they're essentially doing it for free. I just don't understand that. And I love the guys that wear all that Oakland County Choppers stuff and West Coast Choppers. Excuse me...do you own one of their motorcycles? No? Then WTF are you doing???!!!!

Crazy! Just crazy! Makes no damn sense.

The problem is, if you consider it a problem, is that wisdom and age are setting in. It's a fact that I am no longer hip. Just using that term defines my past.

I just bought two pairs of shorts at KMart. There's no way I'm swimming with the "in" crowd.

A part with a cool logo but poor design vs. no logo and well designed. Humm, let's see.....

You guys are killing me! The next time I see someone wearing a FOOSE hat or shirt or Rad Rides or DSE, I will tell them they are crazy to advertise for these companies, come on guys. I have never bought a shirt or product to advertise for the company I bought it from, I just happened to like the product, logo, etc. I guess I am going to have to be more frugal now, no more Oakleys, no more Nikes, no more ball hats of the favorite team with the Nike or Adidas logo. You all are hilarious!

I hate having a logo on any part of a car. I will do whatever it takes to machine off, weld up, or peel a logo off a part.

Since my wardrobe consists of mostly t shirts centered around automotive companies I dont complain here. I wear them while out in the shop so they take a beating and then I throw them in the "shop rag" pile once theyre beyond wearing so they serve a purpose IMO. I wont pay more than a few bucks for them and its even better when theyre free. Last time I was at Bristol at the drags there were T shirts priced for 30 bucks!.....for a T SHIRT? No thanks on those.

BTW, the wife found a west coast choppers t shirt for $3 and an orange county chopper t for $2 so you may see me wearing one even if I dont own one of their $75k bikes. I'll wear a $3 t shirt for working in the garage no matter who's name/logo is on it (ok, so I wouldnt wear "gay pride" or something similar but that goes without saying).

That's not a rip on anyone who wears Oakley glasses or Nike tennis shoes. And what can you do about a Nike logo on your Cardinals cap? I think you misunderstand, Craig. I'm just voicing my confusion over people who actually "pay money" to advertise for a company that they have nothing to do with. In the case of DS&E...if they threw in the shirt after dropping a thousand bones on their parts, I would wear the thing to give them some advertisement if i was happy with the product. No way would I shell out money for it. I've never paid for a company's t-shirt in my life.....and I never will. But if someone wants to plaster a huge West Coast Choppers sticker on the back of their car when they have never (nor will they ever) buy a chopper from him.....I don't see the logic, but to each his own.

......I guess.

I agree with some people. I take all of the stickers and decals off all the parts I get. For one, they look horrible on the parts, and I'm not getting paid to keep them on there. If some one asks me, I'll tell them what it is, and who made it, and where I got it.
Like steve said, I now have this gorgeous ron davis radiator, but across the front of it spray painted in bright blue is RON DAVIS. It really bothers me. It's already stamped on the top of it, why does it have to be spray painted across the front? To me it looks like crap peeking out from the grill. I'm considering painting the front of it black just to cover it up.
As far as the clothing stuff, I don't really wear car related clothing, but I'll wear some t shirts that I get for free for some work around the house.

If you do decide to paint it don't use regular spray-bomb. There is a lot of build and it can bugger up the cooling. Eastwood sells a paint for that specific purpose that is intended to apply a thin coat.

I don't usually mind logos. Maybe that's because I have a degree in graphic design?

I’ll use Summit as my example, but I will note I’m not picking on them, and they sent me a free hat last time without me asking. Why would I pay the same amount for Summit branded aluminum valve covers as I would for blank ones? The branded ones should cost less since that equates to advertising for them. Hell, if I were Summit, I would charge more for the plain covers, which would increase the margin on them in two ways – higher price & reduced manufacturing costs!

Then again, I once had a 20-minute discussion with a new car dealer about the dealer sticker on the car. I told them they should pay me $50 a month in advertising fees for the right to have a dealer tag on my car. I lost that battle.

Of course, this same dealer tried to charge me for window VIN etching ‘because we etch all our cars because we had a theft problem’. I said “Great, that is your problem. Make it free to me or change all the glass”. I did not pay $160 for the etching.

Bonzo...you and I think alike. I too once told dealer to remove the sticker from a truck I bought. They didn't argue...they went ahead and removed it right away.

I can appreciate your thinking on the West Coast Chopper or OCC stickers on the trucks/cars, I don't understand that either! I don't usually buy shirts from companies, unless it is something retro from SoCal or similar company. I have bought shirts from Kyle, only because I first met him when he and Paul were working in Kyle's modest garage, I don't mind supporting him, they are very good people. Anyway, I did not totally disagree with you on this one, some of this new Discovery television apparel wearing is getting out of control, agreed!

BTW - The first thing that I do when I get a new vehicle from a dealer is pull off their logo, not only do most look like crap and are huge, but I also don't see a reason to advertise for them of all people. Especially since I have always come out feeling screwed, even if I didn't!

Jegs Logo valve covers and air cleaners are about $5 cheaper than the ones without the logo, FWIW.

I actually think I have a tool box built out of free stickers. My favorite are the companies who send you a whole buncha stickers, no matter what your order is. I'll end up with like 50 of the same sticker.

One other thing I really hate about stickers on parts is that, usually, the manufacturer does a TERRIBLE job of putting them on. The stickers on my upper a-arms were backwards when I got them.

I found a great place for all my stickers just the other day. I put them on the garage door going into the house. The only problem is when I find my next garage that comes with a home the door will have to go with.

My dad runs a body shop at a Ford Dealer and they periodically get dealer transfer vehicles from Paul Miller Ford in Lexington, KY. They drill holes in the fender and put an actual emblem on that says Paul Miller on their vehicles.

I'd hate to guess how many repairs Dad's shop has done on brand new trucks to remove these, weld the holes shut repair and repaint the entire fender!

I can't believe that they still do this! Personally, I wouldn't buy the truck because of it, but some people don't care.

i prefer car parts without logos or easily removeable logos.
i specifically stated on my purchase contract that i didnt want the dealer crap stuck all over my new truck, they did it anyway, i refused to pick it up until they removed the stickers, they also tried to charge me $160 for a pinstripe i did not want and did not order cause they stripe all their vehicles, i kinda lost that one, i drove home with a stripe but didnt get charged, had to pull otu the heat gun the first day i owned the truck.
