They were on backorder and took a week and a half to get all the parts in. I'll start putting things together tomorrow!

Check your front rotors and let us know if they are the same... directionally.

Looks like they are. Aftermarket rotors may be a good way to go at this time?

They are the same directionaly. Just like my buddies 06 Z. Why?

The direction of the holes will be rotating in the opposite direction on the other side of the car. It bothers some people.

I don't care for now. I may upgrade the rotors down the road, but these will do for now.

I got the fronts on, piece of cake.

The rears look like they will work using an axle flange bracket from an LS1 F body, and some spacers to space out thge E brake drum. The drum mechanism is the same size for the LS1 F body and the new Z06.

The front rotors have the same part number, so I was wondering about this. Does it hinder performance, or is it just a aesthetic problem?

You have to admit that $1650 for a 14" front and 13" rear brake set with huge calipers is pretty damn good.

Here's some more pics...

I'm going to start on the E brake issue with the rears this weekend, I have an idea that I' m pretty sure will work to keep the stock 98-02 F body E brake assembly.

The rear bolts right up to the LS1 rear bracket, you just have to drill out the threads on the bracket, as the Z06 caliper itself is threaded. You can see on this mockup axle I am using, the caliper is centered perfectly on the rotor. I am going to set up everything perfect on this axle, then transfer it all to the 12 bolt.

BTW- The car is not staying orange... so don't puke on the gold center wheels. As soon as I get all the new suspension broken in, I'm repainting it.

Can I ask what front spindle you are using? I think from past discussion it was a ATS piece?? Or is it?? Just curious if it was a bolt on in the fronts??? Thanks

GM's supplier ran out of right side rotors.... so even a new C6/Z06 gets two left sides from the factory.

Make sure that the caliper is completely centered on the rotor itself or you are gonna have some other issues pop up on you. I think the magic number is centered between 0.019" on each side of the rotor surface. But now that I look at it again.... the caliper braket being used, is going flex..... so keeping the rotor centered on the disc is paramount, front and rear.

I have another solution that I am working on, but the prototype wont be complete for another month and a half or two.

So is $1650 the going rate for these? No one has a hook up or is a GP possible?

This has got me wondering if I can get the rears to mate up to my Ford 9" with Torino housing ends....

$1650 is the best I found from a very reputable vendor.

$1650 was the price I got from the dealer with a friend's employee discount.

Chicane- Caliper bracket flex?

Chicane- Caliper bracket flex?

Rear bracket, not the spindles.

If I can get a free moment tomorrow, I'll be calling you regarding the steering stops.

Nice HRE's. I love that color wheel on white and black cars. What color are you going to do?

I figured that's what he meant. Flex side-to-side, or flex twisting with the wheel? Never heard of that...

Thanks on the wheels. It's going Daytona Blue (350 Z) with a decent amount of carbon fiber parts.

Give me a shout whenever.. I have meaning to get with you on some steering rebuild parts and clutch master parts for another car... just been busy as hell.

That reminds me Tyler, forgot to ask you whether or not you fellas could rebuild a '69 Rustang steering box? Or is there a sexier alternative...

not trying to hijack lol:drive2:

someone should put a kit together...

The brake line kit that I was using for the front 13"C5 brakes previously installes works fine. I got it from Precision Brakes. The banjo fitting clears everything, and the line is adequate in length.

Looks like it is coming together good. I was thinking about putting some gold Iforged wheels on my blue 67 but decided against it, i'll be following your car to see how it turns out.

Whistler,
you say the z-06 caliper bolted right up to the ls1 camaro caliper bracket after you had to do the driling? So you did not need to buy /or built a new rear caliper mount, correct?I was confused because the ls1 camaros have 12" rear rotors and the z-06 rears are 13" if i have read this thread right. Also what brackets are you using for the front 14" rotors and calipers

He is using our AFX Tall spindles on the front of his car, as they are designed to have any C5/C6 brake package from any manufacturer bolt directly on- no extra brackets required.

I was looking into getting the sc&c front package for my malibu, is the C-6 brake setup is a direct bolt on for your spindles?

Yes, C6 brakes will bolt directly to the AFX spindle. No new brackets required.

TitoJones

Yes. All C5/C6 brake packages from any manufacturer will bolt on to our spindles. This includes Baer, Touring-Classics, Alcon, AP Racing, Wilwod, Stop Tech, Brembo, Factory GM (both 2 pot PBR/6 pot Z06) and many others.

Just so nobody goes out and buys ls1 rotors they are NOT the same as c6z rotors.

I believe you read my post without reading what I was responding to, assuming I was saying they are different side to side, which they are not.

iLOVEFIRSTGENS,
I realized they werent the same diameter,I just couldnt figure out how the 13" rotors and dual piston calipers were fitting the on the caliper mounts that were designed for 12" rotors and single piston calipers.
And as far as the other reply i figured the rotors were drilled for left and right side and the factory was out of a certian side?

I have a C5 spindle. Will the Z06 brakes bolt to that one as well or is there multiple location options on the ATS spindle?

Steve68

Only one bolt on location on the AFX spindle,

MrQuick
08-10-2006, 06:03 PM
the difference is in the abutment.

The AFX spindle uses a C5 hub and brake mounting system. If you have a 97-06 Corvette upright, you can bolt on Z06 brakes.

the difference is in the abutment.

For those who don't know, this is the basket, or caliper bracket that bolts to the spindle.
