Rear end manufacturer suggestions....

I'm wondering if anyone can suggest some good sources for acquiring a 12 bolt rear end or a 9" for my '68 Camaro? I'm going big block with this car and will need to ditch my 10 bolt. I'm not looking to go all out fancy with this thing...just a good reliable unit that can handle regular street duty. The best I've been able to come up with is the Currie 9" and 3rd member through Summit Racing, http://www.summitracing.com Part numbers are; CUR-GM6769MX and CUR-9TL375S. With the Touring Classics brake kit I'm looking at around $3000 for everything (not including taxes and shipping). Is there a better option out there?

Also, if anyone is interested...the 10 bolt will be for sale in August. It is a posi unit with 3.73 gears and Wilwood Brakes and has been completely rebuilt with no miles on it since the rebuild. The axles are the stock axles.

I have had outstanding luck with Moser Engineering. Great fitment, never seen one broken.
Just a tip, the 9" costs about the same and the 12-bolt and can be shipped via UPS, so its cheaper.

Might sound a little Street Rod but Winters makes some killer quickchange rears that have gear type differentials and are pretty bulletproof. They are about the same price if you stick without the polish. I think the last one I ordered was about $2600 with any ends you want.

Hi Tony

Some food for thought. I have found when I went from a GM Rear to the ford 9" I lost some time in the quarter mile. Both Rears were the same gear ratio. The 9" was a much better rear with les rotating mass but it ate horse power.
I was told that the lower pinyon help gain tunel clearence but was not as eficient as a gm rear.
If you do not need the clearence and the coveince of swapping center sections with different gear ratios , I would go with a 12"
I have a 67 Camaro with the 9" and I had to make room in the tunel for the rear U joint, it would hit on full comprestion.
