After installing my Gm 572 crate engine I noticed that the Hotchkis front sway is contacting the oil pan. :banghead: Right now the car is on jack stands but I can't let the front end down without damaging the pan.

Is it ok to put spacers under the sway bar mounts where it attaches to the frame? I need to lower the center of the sway at least 3/8"-1/2". Will this adversly affect any crucial geometry?

Thanks.

Just send me the 572 and that should fix your problem......lol
I think spacing will be ok, since you are not going to be 100% WAO very much in the corners. I would fab up a solid spacer though, not washers.

Why not washers? How about if I used stainless washers and polished them to a brilliant sheen? :rotfl:

I have some flat bar I'll use.

If you just used washers the bushing would be loose and the bar would rattle around in the bracket more than it should and the bushing could work it's way out of the bracket.

Rich, I was only joking about the washers.

Nova sway bars have a swing down in the center, would adjustment of outer link sleeve lengths help? It might if you can swing it forward.

Spacer plates would not hurt if the faseners where torqued properly by the way. The spacer plates should be made to span the entire distance of the bushing base.

Thanks Vince. I located some 1.5" wide, 0.25" thick steel flat bar, cut it to length, drilled a couple holes and positioned it between the bushing base and frame. This provided me ~3/8" clearance between the pan and sway bar.
