View Full Version : Tempted To Swap To A Stick....

I have an '82 Mercury Cougar sedan that I am planning on building up to Pro Touring status. Plans (for right now) call for a 5.0L GT-40X V-8 crate motor fitted with Mustang-style SEFI fuel injection.

As of now, I am planning on slipping an AOD behind the 5.0. However, there is a part of me that is SORELY tempted to swap to a stick. I am having to cut a hole in the OE trans tunnel for a floor-mounted shifter anyway. And a stick would increase the coolness factor quite a bit!

I know exactly what parts and labor that I would need to do such a swap. I just wonder if it would be a big PITA to do.

What say you?!

Either go with the stick, or paddle shift it :).

I say stick! If I could afford to do it I would have a TKO right now! Might as well do it now when you are into it!

A t-5 swap would be pretty easy, the hardest part would probably be putting the pedal box in. If you could find a wrecked 5 speed mustang for a donor car you'd be set.

I say stick! If I could afford to do it I would have a TKO right now! Might as well do it now when you are into it!

If I were to actually go with a stick, I would go with a 600 Series Tremec because of its gearing.

I am not afraid of the actual labor involved. I know exactly what would be involved. I am just thinking that the job would become too much of a PITA to be feasible.

But it would be cool....
