A few weeks ago, I was able to buy a good Macintosh-compatible Fuji digital camera. This morning, I took a few pics of my beloved Cougar while I was paying for my monthly rent for space to store it. (I had to put it in storage because of 1) my Dad is in the throes of Alzheimer's and is expected to die soon and 2) some thorny legal issues.)

Here is a pic of the LH front side:

Why in the world would I do a Cougar sedan and not even a Mustang?! Well, I DO like to be different from the crowd!

I decided to keep this particular car for two (2) reasons. First, this is one of relatively few '82 Cougars with the OE 3.8L Essex V-6. Why is this important?! Because with the V-6 comes a Fox-body 4-cyl/V-8 K-member, which will make it MUCH easier to fit a 5.0L V-8 under the hood of this bad boy! Most of these cars came with the Ford inline 6 cyl "tower of power" and the associated oddball 6 cyl. K-member!

The second reason why I chose to keep this car was because of the OE navy-blue paint scheme. Yes, it does look like a "piece of junk" right now, but with some bodywork, this car will be looking sharp again!

What's my inspiration for doing this project?!

I am planning on keeping the dashboard and basic instrument cluster arrangement, although I am planning on a tach in place of the fuel level gauge. The fuel level gauge will go (as of now) where the trans selector indicator used to be.

If you are wondering what I have in the back seat, the large box contains a center console from a Ford Fairmont. The smaller box contains a replacement taillight for the RH side. As you can see from an earlier pic, the RH taillight NEEDS to be replaced!

My plans for the Cougar is to build what in essence a truly high performance Mercury counterpart to the '81-82 Ford Granada GLX. The Granada GLX was the top of the line model with blacked out chrome trim at several key areas.

I am planning on retrofitting this car with Mustang SEFI and a 5.0L GT-40X crate motor. The name of the game here is OE-type durability and reliability, NOT ultimate power! Why OE-type durability and reliability?! Because I am planning on taking this car on a Hot Rod Power Tour!

(I will frankly admit that I have often been tempted on getting a FRPP 347 ci crate motor with AFR heads, BBK intake, and nitrous oxide for the Coug!)

Some of you may be wondering why I have not been working on the Cougar lately. Again, as I stated from the onset, my Dad is in the throes of Alzheimer's and his death is looming on the horizon!

I am planning on resuming work on the Coug when this storm of my life passes on.

Looks like you have a little bit of work ahead of you, I'm sure it'll turn out to be a sweet car! Sorry to hear about your dad. Good luck
