I need help fast

I am trying to gear up for the track tomarrow night and I am having some proboems with the timing..I have the pro billet dist and for some reason the dist is not advancing more than 10* I am running about 12 initial and it all comes in about 2500 rpm at a total of 25* and the starter sounds horrible when trying to start..it is making this screeching sound... WE changed springs in the dist with no luck I am stumpped any Ideas???

Just for reference this is a 383 with all MSD ignition system.

The springs control how fast/slow the advance comes in, but not how much. The colored bushings control the amount of advance if you want more.

The starter issue sounds like a shim issue, bad starter, worn flexplate, etc. 12 degrees initial shouldn't be too much for a good starter, I normally run 16-18 initial.
