Who's "chip" is good?
I've heard to stay away from the ones that plug into the diagnostic port on the PCM itself. Is the PCM flash based?

The 7.3's have a circuit board port right on the factory computer you can just plug & play a chip into. I'd recommend using a chip that plugs right into that port.
The only downside to this is the computer has a "catch code" and the chip has to match it. The code is fairly easy to find but the computer has to be removed to get to the sticker that shows it. Sometimes the dealer may reflash the computer so the sticker shown may not be the proper code for what the sticker shows. Then you'd have to put a scan tool on it and find the HEX/BIN or the part# for the computer and then cross reference it to a catch code.

Check with the crew at the Thedieselstop (http://www.thedieselstop.com/) Any thing you ever wanted to know about powerstrokes can be found there and even a few things you didn't want to know.

My neighbor used the SuperChips tool that plugs straight into the diagnostic port, seemed to work real good.

I've had a 01 super chip and truck (Ford 250) Since new, three weeks ago my transmission scattered into many pieces. I still had first and reverse and about 3/4 the teeth on the drive gear. I got 33" BF-Goodriches on it. They are soft and sticky and wide. All contributing to the failure of the trans.
So, I just put a 4500.00 ATS Stage three 4R100 with co-pilot and fiver star converter. Talk about an incredible difference! Daggone truck is fast now! Tire smoke through first and 1/2 of second with black marks through the shift, NO PAUSE! Used to not smoke 1/2 way through first? Probably +250 to +300 foot pounds at the rear. Locked up converters and ATS's improvements on the shift are awsome.
Now I need Tires and another universal?
I did not really want to start a thread, but anybody with an ageing truck that does the trans in; should consider an ATS racing transmission before spilling cash on a new truck with an even weaker transmission?
I am stoked on this converter and transmission, KILLER products!

I work for a Truck and auto shop and we sell mostly Superchips and EDGE as the EDGE is built by MSD if I am correct.
There are a few others.
Yes ATS is one company that makes a solid trans then there are these guys too http://www.transmissioncenter.net.
I just sold a 700R4 Raptor with all the bells and whistles and the guy loves it, his son has a 4l80E from them I believe too.

I'm using a Hypermaxx chip in my '01 since 2002 and couldn't be happier. The automatic couldn't stand the strain while towing 10,000lbs. so I used a pro-loc converter built by suncoast transmissions in FT. Walton Beach, Fla. along with their transmission. It was gaurunteed 100,000 miles for unlimited horsepower and up to a 20K lb. load and haven't had any problems yet.
Monzaracer I bought a transmission(700R4 stage 3 Raptor) from PATC and it was the biggest piece of "sh****T" I ever wasted my money on, I posted about them in the transmission section. It lasted 600 miles and was toast, The 3-4 clutch pac was nothing but blued steel bands from a lack of pressure (it wasn't from the TVS being out of adjustment either,I checked it with the pan off during assembly), when we disassembled we found torn o-rings in the input shaft that was done when installing the pump, the o-rings on 2 of the pistons in the drum were also torn during assembly, the shifter shaft was so chewed up a seal would only last for about 2 drives and was chewed up and pouring, the pump had been dropped and was damaged in the o-ring area and leaked there, every seal except the front seal for the converter leaked , and the tailshaft bushing was collapsed when they installed it which meant I had to change it during install before I ever used it. Customer service SUCKED the only solution offered was to ship it back and they would fix within 2 weeks if they found a problem that was their responsibility and ship it back, so this would be a month without the car at best plus your at their mercy as to whether they will be honest about it which after finding all the issues I found I would be doubtful of, they also spoke to me as if I were an idiot whenever I called about any of these issues, they said " you can send it back to us and we'll get to it when we can or do whatever you want it's yours now, you payed for it so do whatever makes you happy". That is just plain wrong when someone has spent over 3K with you for a trans! All I can say is run like hell from a PATC transmission, they must let monkeys assemble them.

One of my good friends install ed the banks six gun with the turb housing and the big head waste gate, exhaust and straight piped and the truck rips pretty good now. He was screwwin around with my other bud who's got an 03' 6.0 stroke with the six gun and various other mods and was hangin right with him. All that stuff makes them fun to Drive

Strange I have sold several of Raptors with no problems what so ever and they have even sent extra speedo gears at no charge.
I never had any service issues since I started using them.
I wonder if they had a few people issues way back when because I had afew people tell me the same thing. We put one behind some serious torque and its still living today.
Sorry you had such bad luck.

A freind of mine deals with Powerstrokes and here is his opinion:
1st choice would be Quadzilla
2nd choice TS
3rd choice SCT
Keep in mind this is the best for the 7.3. The Quadzilla is undetectable, put down more HP (as advertised) at lower EGT's. If interested look at Quadzilla website and if interested in price you can PM me.
He has been dealing with Powerstrokes for several years and has tried numerous products and this is his opinion. Thanks guys, but I dunna much about em.
