I have a coil over suspension in an old Dodge.
What would cause the camber to go way negative while backing up?

The toe being off can make the tires dig in and out respectively.

A bunch of toe in would cause that. I would think that you'd have to have a really soft spring or more likely, very complient LCA bushings to actually see a camber change.

Toe-in and bad balljoints/kingpins?

OK, here we go. This syndrome is very present in independant rears and also pertains to front. As the wheel travels up and down through the suspension motion, the camber changes. Camber goes more negative as the suspension travels up. If the toe is way off, the car will dig and grow the suspension pushing it up, or down, changing camber as it goes. If pushing the car, it will get very difficult to push after 10 feet also. The wider the tires, the worse it is.
