Gulstrand on 2nd Gen Camaro

Does the Gulstrand mod work on second generation F bodies? Thanks for any help or input.

Not needed, GM fixed the problems with the taller spindle. Do what you can to increase caster.

A second gen can handle pretty well with no mods, but Guldstrand used to lower the frame brackets on second gens for racing use.
Tubular upper arms with 5 deg of positive caster really helps.

As you can see from the link above (BTW great link amcmike,got any more like that?) the 2nd gen chassis is a lot better than the 1st gen but still leaves room for improvement. Where the 1st gen frontend geometry is poor the 2nd gen`s is shall we say indifferent. We have a factory Chevy hi performance manual from 1970 with a chapter on prepping the "new" `70 Z-28 for road racing and it mentions and has a diagram for lowering the UCA cross shaft holes also,although less than that Guldstrand article. Fact is they played with a lot of variations back then to try and find out which one worked best for what car,track etc. What they don`t mention is that unless the car is road race car low the upper arms will limit droop travel a lot once the holes are lowered. We developed a package (Street Comp Stage 1) to yield very similar geometry gains no cutting/welding using our tall modular ball joints and adj. tubular A arms. It also lets you run more + caster and any - camber you like without worrying about room for shims or header clearance. We have a number of customers autocrossing with this setup with good results.
We`re also going to be revisiting the 2nd gen chassis shortly and applying the excellent AFX forged aluminum spindles,C5 brakes etc.,tweaking the geometry for best performance and eliminating most of the factory bumpsteer. That`s gonna be a nice setup and save a lot of weight too! Mark SC&C
