Bringing this thread back from the dead.

Well Its been a long time since the car has been worked on.
I had alot of life type things that had to be taken care of before the car could get worked on again.

I loosely hung all the sheet metal on the car and, put it on a trailer to have the guys at Bruning Auto Design get all the door gaps perfect, and the panels aligned correctly. I wanted the doors to look like a modern european car with the nice tight gaps.

The Guys at B.A.D. are top notch. Tim is a top notch fabricator that worked on both the Realmad and Newmad at Steve's Auto Restoration. I think in just a few short years B.A.D. will be one of the Northwest's top shop to have your car worked on. Here is there current project http://www.lateral-g.net/forums/showthread.php4?t=11358 (http://www.lateral-g.net/forums/showthread.php4?t=11358)

Here are some pics they sent me on the progress of the car. There are some cool mods that will be done to the car, I just got to make sure I don't go way over budget. Some of the real cool stuff might not happen till later this year or next. As I get new pics I'll keep this updated.

Some more pics.
The gaps at the bottoms of the doors were pretty big, so they added some metal to them, and closed the gap so all the gaps on the car are even.
Also they filled in the front camaro emblem holes. It feels good to know they are great metal fabricators and welders.

okay latest update is the front bumper.
I have looked at lots of 69 camaro's with metal bumpers and endura bumpers.
Some look nice and tight and some look like they are pulled away from the body too much.
I just like the look of a tucked in bumper. Tim has been busy tucking the front bumper. Also I don't plan on running a front plate so I had him get rid of the license plate fangs on the bumper. The rear bumper is next.

The car is looking great! A quick question about your axle. Are the axle tubes the same lenth? This is where I'm at on my 67. It looks like the brackets are moved over a bit to compensate for the pinion offset, so the driver side tube should be shorter??? :hmm: I just want to make sure I understand what I think I know! PM if you have to. Thanks..Frank.

I wanted the driveshaft to be centered down the tunnel so the axle lengths are different on each side.

Most of the trimming is done on the tail panel.

Also I didn't like the way most of the camaros looked with tucked bumpers the ends have way too much of an arc and look like an old truck bumper. So Tim and his awesome abilities at metal fabrication, hammered and reshaped the ends of the bumper. Giving the front and rear more of a matching appearance.
Just look at the difference between the end of the new reshaped one vs the stock end.

Are you going to re-chrome those bumpers ?

What I don't quite understand about reshaping bumpers is how you manage to metal finish them smooth enough for chrome. Is that the real secret, you just have to be super good at the metal finishing ?

Maybe I don't understand the chroming process but I wouldn't expect it cover any flaws in the metal.

watch power block more they have showed how its done also recent episode of muscle car when they tucked the bumper on thier impala project and sent it off for chroming

they will sometime fill areas with lead and grind smooth, but there is alot more to it.

more shots of the rear bumper and shows how the ends were reshaped to give the bumper more of a similar look to the front. The stock rear bumper just looked to much of a bubble.

I like how they use the quarter panel as a sketch pad.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2008/09/826_stance_003JPG-1.jpg

This shot also shows where the license plate recess on the bumper was shortened to match the opening in the rear valance.
From the factory the bumper opening is wider than the valance.

Here is an update,
Since there has been so much talk about Billet door handles, I thought I'd give a sneak peak at what Tim did for my new door handles.
This is just a teaser, I will not show the final door handle till its done.
Tim made a die, to stamp the metal, to give it the correct shape and to have both sides match exactly.

its been a while since i did an update. I slowed way down on the car due to getting a paycut at work.
But here are some new pics i got off the camera last night.
Here is the stamp die I made to recess the fuel door. I machined it and pressed the pins in to keep everything aligned as it gets pressed.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2009/12/P1030186JPG-1.jpg
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2009/12/92109_update1-1.jpg

Close up shot of the filler door all in place now. The Ricks Stainless tank was also modified to get the filler to the new location and everything lines up great. Tim did a great job on this. The plate will be in a fixed position now and not drop down.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2009/12/P1030198JPG-1.jpg
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2009/12/P1030201JPG-1.jpg
Here are the final shots of what the rear bumper looks like.
I can't speak enough about how good Tim is at metal shaping. I mean the metal on the bumper is thick and he formed and reshaped the ends, and makes it look like its so easy. The rear of the car is still going to get a new spoiler and the exhaust cut outs. Then the back half of the car will be done.

Been a while since any updates.
The Exhaust is done. Here are a couple pics from my iphone. Tim cut the rear valance for exhaust to exit. It has exhaust tips that have a resonator built in, gives it a factory tip look. Also he gave the opening a rolled edge that is real nice, its not a rolled edge all the way around, it fades into the valance at the bottom.
I'll put picture of the entire exhaust system up when i get better pictures. Its a work of art. Its all 3 inchTim is working on the roll cage now.

Started work on the front inner fenders also. I wanted it to match the frame better and make them a bit wider for more tire clearance.
There is no need for the control arm hole to be so big so it was brought out to the edge of the control arm mount about 3/8" clearance all the way around. Also the back side was lengthened so it covers the sub frame more, keeping some tire debris off the subframe and firewall.
Tim is real good at working metal. Shrinking, stretching, and using a big hammer he made the crown in the metal and gave the front inner fenders more tire clearance.

There will be a bit more detail in them but that will be on the next update.

Here is a small update on the engine compartment.

Here is a fan shroud that I had laser cut, and then Tim bent the ends up and welded to the radiator. They are Spal fans and should pull alot of hot air.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2012/03/fans-1.jpg

I had Tim straighten the radiator support. By straightening it we gained over an inch for the intake on the supercharger.
Also made mounts for the intercooler.

Since the radiator support was made straight the hood latch is going to get modified. I also made a new front end support and had it laser cut.

All the intercooler plumbing is now done and it looks real good. Tim is real good at laying stuff out, making sure stuff is symmetrical.

This is why I have two different size fans. The intake on the supercharger needs to go somewhere.

Got the intake for the supercharger and Air filter location finished. Made close out panels for both sides. Air filter will be on the other side of the close out panel.
Made some stainless hard lines for the coolant. It has to go around too many things to do it with a regular hose.

I had these tail lights made for me in April of 2010 just never got around to putting them on the car.
I decided since the exhaust runs out the back of the tail panel its too busy to have a RS reverse light. So I had the combination of the RS tail light with the back up lense.

The core support close out panel is done. My inner fenders were done but I had been playing around with the idea of putting some style into them. I decided it needed to be done. It makes everything tie together. Core support and inner fenders match now as well as the side panels.

did you have to mod the trunk floor to fit the exhaust? if so any pic?

yes to get a full 3 inch exhaust without putting a dimple in the pipe you have to mod the trunk floor. I'll get a picture of the inside of the trunk soon.

Small update.
I've been working on the car in my spare time, which isn't much. I decided to remove the FAST intake and do something a bit more custom. While I was at it. I milled the Chevrolet and bowtie off the valve covers, also removed the ribs down the center of the center bolts. Since I was at it I milled the lettering off the fuel rails and cleaned them up also. Fuel lines for the fuel rails are also done.
Here is a before picture of the valve covers.

Here is where I started to get creative. With a factory style intake, it just looks so short in the engine bay. I wanted to take up some of the available real estate. I also tried to tie the intake to the new inner fenders.
My photography skills are lacking. Here is the best I can do to show the outcome.

Intake is sick! Nice work! May be a silly question but can u tell me the benefit of having this exhaust vs a cutoff or full exhaust? How is it controlled?

The benefit is I have a choice on what I want the car to sound like at any given time. The car should make more power with the exhaust fully open vs going thru the muffler. It will be controlled with a switch.

my first update in a long time.
Worked on a new front valance. I was going to just do a Marquez Design, however Tim suggested I keep the car all metal instead of putting fiberglass on it now at this point.

So we worked on a few ideas and this is the one that stuck.
I played around in CAD first to see what it would look like.
Moved the lights out 6 inches and made 2 openings.

Mocked up on the car.

another small update.

Stripping the coating and primer getting it ready for paint.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2014/10/photoJPG-1.jpg

Also wanted to make a rear spoiler that I could call my own.
its shorter and leaned back a bit, but plays off the original spoiler style.
Tim has it all tacked in place. it needs to be all welded and then metal finished.

Well I have begun to dismantle the Camaro and get it ready for paint.
I pushed it outside and took some pictures.

Here is the spoiler all welded and finished. I really wanted something that looked like it could of been from the factory. Its shorter than stock and leaned back more than a stock spoiler.
Also made sure that it had an edge. When the spoiler is built off the trunk it makes the trunk look too long and out of place in my opinion.
