Compared to a Ford nine-inch? Trying to figure out how much weight I will save.

Is there a way to decode a Dana60 to see what it's out of? I know some of them are worth a few bucks..

<-- Dana60 illiterate lol

I don't know if it's a car Dana60 or a truck Dana60.. I need to get the codes off the housing.

I just know it's a Dana60 with 4.56 gears and Moser axles :)

A Dana60 is WAY stronger than a Ford 9".. which is why they were stuffed behind Hemis and are used in rock crawlers.. but they weigh a ton..

I've narrowed alot of danas and 9" rears through the years.the dana is definitley the strongest, and heaviest.A car rear is about 50-60 lbs more then a 9".Some of the truck housings are crazy heavy, did one for ls1nova I think that thing had to be 150 lbs heavier,[but his car does hook].Bill of material # is right on the tube, call reider racing they will tell you what it is out of

Thanks.. and thanks to Frank as well :)

I need to get the numbers and run it through.. I was told it has 4.56 gears and Moser axles.. we shall see when I pull the cover.

It's a great rear-end, but I am going another route.. and it's a secret :ssst:

If I save 60lbs off the back then I will that much closer to 3000lbs..

Sometimes I like extra weight is a good thing ,if its in the right place and it means I'm not replacing ring and pinions in it all the time .Secret?I'm getting ready to do a 8.8 mustang rear for a heavy big block Nova,Ive been trying to talk the guy out of it,but if the customer doesn't mind replacing parts regularly who am I to say? lol.I have to say that 68 camaro of yours is one of my favorite on the site.My 68 is in the blown apart stage, every time I check out pics of yours I go out and work on mine

I wouldn't go so far as to say that. A dana does have a bigger ring gear, but if you compare it to a 9 inch, it's not as thick and the pinion shaft isn't either. I could've swore I saw a comparison in PHR a long time ago too. I'd stick with a 9".
