No I'm not in trouble or anything.

My wife has this uncle who's a complete loser. 48 years old and lives with his sister. Has no car, no job, no bank account, and usually no money. His one talent in life is sign painting and he does odd jobs here and there "under the table" and will sit back and milk the money until he runs out. Like I said...one of the most sensational losers I have ever known. Well...recently it's been assumed that he's been getting involved in cocaine. I guess he's been stoned out of his mind around the house and acting really strange. This past Monday the Warren Police raided his sisters house and arrested him. They confiscated 50 grams of cocaine that was in his possesion. He made bail yesterday for $200. I thought to myself, "Two Hundered Dollars??!!" For 50 grams of cocaine that seems pretty cheap. I'm not sure what 50 grams adds up to but someone told me it was equivilant to 3 pounds. I'm guessing his situation became so destitute the he has crossed into dealing this stuff to make money because there is no way in hell that imbocile had enough money to buy 3 pounds of cocaine for his personal use. So my question is....do you think he was dealing? Also, what kind of sentence can this dip sh*t expect to get if and when he's convicted? Thanks.

50 grams is a little less than 2 ounces. I don't know if that's a personal use amount or not.

50 grams is about 1.5 oz according to an online conversion calculator I just checked...

I can't answer your other questions, except my gut tells me he likely won't get more than probation.

Your wife's aunt(?) would probably do herself a big favor by kicking his a$$ out though. It doesn't seem it would be much of a stretch for the law to go after her too, since this is going on in her home. They will state that she is complicit etc.

It sucks that some people go down that road...

If he's never been in trouble before, he'll likely be eligible for some sort of pre-trial intervention program which will ultimately lead to the dismissal of the charges if he complies with the program (get a job, therapy, random testing, etc.). There are also many programs for first time drug offenders that focus on treatment rather than punishment. I doubt he'll ever get more than a fine.

More importantly, the sister needs to get him out of the house quick (if it's not too late) - most states have forfeiture laws and if he is dealing out of the house, she can lose it entirely, even if she didn't know. There's a well-known story around here of a law enforcement officer losing her personal car through a forfeiture action when her teenage son was caught with distribution levels of drugs while using the car.

Time for tough-love. The sister needs to put as much distance between he and she as she can lest she get dragged down along with him. It's bad enough when someone hits their "low-point" worse yet when they bring others along for the ride.
Time for this guy to put on his big boy pants and deal with the life he chose for himself.

Well, I can tell you this....she will never throw him out. She is by far his biggest sympathist in this world. "It's not his fault....it's the world's fault....." one of those types. Basically it's a lost cause. We don't see them that often anyway. I don't know what the hell my mother-n-law was telling me when she said it was 3 pounds. Goes to show you how much we know about measurement conversion. LOL!!!!

I'd just like to see this scumbag locked up. He deserves it. But unfortunately he'll probably get a smack on the hand.

Tony,
Where (which state) was he arrested? I would check with the local authorities about the "intent to distribute." Find out how many pounds/ounces are required to be busted for distribution...He will most likely be found guilty of possession, like stated before, and have his wrist slapped...Your wife's aunt sounds like a sweetheart...this is an unfortunate incident for her

Side Note
This uncle sounds like a loser...she does need to get rid of him, fast

My uncle who's in his fifties got busted for exporting guns and drugs with his motorcycle buisiness. How does this relate you ask. Well after my grandfather died he moved back in with his mother my grandma to help her out and watch her. Turns out he was storing his contraband throughout the house. FBI came storming in the house one morning and arrested him. Long story short he's in prison and she still lives in the house.

Well, being in Florida, the cocaine capitol of the world in the 80s and 90s, I had some exposure to the stuff with freinds, family, and employees. as I understand it, 1 gram is enough for a couple of people for the evening. A "8 ball" which is 1.75 grams, or a 1/8th of a ounce is enough for a couple of pro users for a evening. A real heavy weekend warrior user will use a 1/4 ounce (7 grams) in a weekend. I do not think most users buy more then that unless they are dealing to support their habit. At 50 grams, you can be certain he is dealing heavy.

I don't know what your laws are, but I am pretty sure you busted with a felony in Florida for anything over a ounce with some mandatory time and no bail. Your sister needs to send him to rehab. She should turn him in if he does anymore, and he will!

Welll, I won't go far, well too far into this,
8 ball = 3.5 grams
teenth =1.5 grams
kilo=2.2lbs
16 grams to an oz
28 grams to a lb, I think the last 2 are fuzzy

this all had to do with the units of measue we used to use, I was younger, made some money and had a hell of alot of fun, much older and wiser, now it all meth baby!!! I gotta go mix a batch, J/K

But, like frank said major feloney in FL, I don't know about other states, but they only stop when they hit rock bottom,

Wow...some good information. So 50 G's is a lot of coke then. How he posted bail at $200 I'll never know. I'll keep you guys posted as to what I find out. Frank...I'll check those laws in Michigan. Thanks.

That's a shame. My stepfather did that with his daughter for about 20 years. She OD'd about a month ago. No, I'm not kidding.

People lose sight of the fact that people make the choice to use and continue to use. Nobody grabs an addict by the neck amd forces them to use. The make a choice to do so. Enabling (sp?) an addict is the worst thing you can do. Real love is kicking them to the curb and forcing them to get their shinola straight or die. Hopefully for you and your family this clown dosen't drag anyone else down his chosen road.

And even though 50 grams (1.76 oz) of cocaine doesn't sound like alot, it is a light powder. So my cop friends say it will fill a ziplock sandwich bag half way.

a gram costs about 30 bucks so he could make over 1500 from it, that could be for personal use though. even though to have that for personal use you have to be wealthy.... cocain is not a good thing to get involved with... try to get his sister out of there now. its only a matter of time before he starts bring some bad people over the house. i only know so much because a very good friend of mine really destroyed him self with this stuff.
