Some [slow] progress shots of what I'm working on when I get the time. This was my first time smoothing a firewall. These photos aren't totally up to date. I relocated my wiper motor under the driver's fender and extended the wiper arm. I was pleasantly surprised how smooth that little mod was. That was a ton of tack welding to get that panel on. I'll be glad when this part's over! I'll try to dig up the 9"ford axle build up photos too.

Next I think I may attempt the Guildstrand mod and then weld in the subframe connectors now that I have the subframe all squared up. I'm almost dreading my next big wallet-busting purchase...wheels and tires. The toughest part is deciding what will look best.

Anyway, enjoy!

Looks good Ben. Any ideas on what wheel you might want?

Yeah, I'm interested in a bunch of them. I just haven't made up my mind. I have like 50 rendered versions of my Nova and still can't decide! I at least know I'm going with 18"s F/B with some fat rubber around them. I'm guessing that I'll have to minitub to get 285's under the back. Although, I've heard you can fit 275's with no rubbing as long as the backspacing is generous. That was one great thing about the 69 Mustang rear end I scored, the axle tube is 7/8" shorter on both sides to allow for deeper wheels. I like as much outer lip showing on a wheel as possible.

The wheels will most likely be painted/powder coated black or charcoal. That means I have to decide on paint now to match them which is years away. I really like the clean techy look for this car rather than more of a traditional hot rod wheel or a "blingy" wheel.

Looks good man. It's ridiculous how many ripples and dents those firewalls have from the factory. I was extremely impressed with all of your renderings of the car in your other post. If you car looks anything close to them it's sure to be a show stopper. Def keep us updated with progress pics as I'm sure it will be a bad mother when its all said and done. Good luck w/ it....

Thanks,
I still have so much work to do to straighten all that sheet metal out. I could have just slapped a plate over it and mudded the whole thing. Though, I really wanted to take advantage of the inner structure and keep as much metal as possible considering I'm building it in a 20x20 2 car garage with no real metal forming tools other than hammers and dollies. Talk about making extra work for myself!
