I am interested in alternatives to the huuuge (Gen II) LT1 alternator.

I would like to find something that I can use on the stock bracket that is less ... big..

I picked up a set of cast aluminum bowtie valvecovers that I would really like to use on my motor. Alternator is in the way

I used a Power Master 57914 (http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=PWM%2D57914&N=115&autoview=sku) , which I think is a b-body part number. It's much lighter and smaller and the powermaster version still provides enough juice.
Here's a picture, but it's not a very good angle.

I used the same as John. I got the info from his article in GM High Tech Performance. I bought the alternator off of ebay, it somehow was made to produce more amps, 140 I think. When I got it however, it would not fit on the F body bracket. I called them & they sent me a different housing that has the holes farther apart & it fits the F body bracket just fine.

Just make sure when they tell you the amp rating you ask how much it puts out at idle. You will be surprised how little some of the aftermarket deals put out at idle. That LT1 Vette Alt is pretty good quality piece. I did the exact same thing and had to change the pully on the alt to quicken not slow it's rpm or the engine would practically die with the accys on. That LT1 doesn't idle at 900rpm like a big cammed engine.

So will this actually clear the valve cover? I want to use some fabricated valve covers. Any other pics?

Brian..ok cool..how much smaller of a pulley did you have to go?

The alt is the only thing on the belt right now.
No ac or p/s...that may help. I dont plan on a large stereo...

thanks buddy..

Powermaster didn't say anything about having to change the pulley. It wouldn't hurt to call Powermaster first to get the idle rpm requirements.

I will have to dig around to see if I have a shot that shows the rear view.
