I'm looking for a bare LS7 block, but haven't yet seen the part number for it, nor pricing/availability. I could search my butt off, but my guess is that someone here already has the info. Another question, what is the downside, if any, to re-sleaving the LS2 block for 4.125 bore? I know it's been done, I'm interested in hearing if there is a big price swing either way.

The goal, or at least the idea, is to build a 427 using aftermarket forged pieces and heads, solid roller cam, N/A for now but later to be used with a small power adder (likely a Magnacharger). Ideally dry sump too. Uncharted territory for me, any and all help mucho appreciated. This is for a shop project, and there's this thing called a budget.....

Mark,

I'm not being rude, but there is a ton of info over at:

http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=80 (direct link to the LS2-LS7 Engine Specific section).

You'll even find the part number your looking for.

Hell.. I know someone that just built a 500 cubic inch LS2.. made 700hp.

Let me dig around for you.. Budget??

You can get an LS7 for $13000 or an LS2 for $5500.. $7500 is a LOT of upgrade money..

Either 12571246 or 17802854, for the LS7 block. They go for about $3100, but I think you are better off with a sleeved LS2. The Darton sleeved blocks are stronger than the LS7, and are cheaper, at $2500.

Some people like the LS7 block better, since it is factory built, but it is basically a sleeved LS2.

My bare LS7 block showed up yesterday, ordered it from Scoggin-Dickey. Came in a nice crate, all wrapped up to keep it warm :)

After a bit of reading and talking to folks, it does look like I'll be going with a sleeved LS2 motor, 4.125" bore. It also sounds as if the LS7 top end stuff is very impressive, so it'll most likely be that route for this car, with more cam than a standard LS7. I'd like to see about 650 HP at the crank, an honest and driveable 650 HP, and it seems as if the guys in the know are making this happen seemingly without "too" much fuss. I am now leaning away from the extra weight, cost, and complexity of a power adder, just a good ole fashioned FI all aluminum 427....

Tony, I got a lot of info from your site, nice stuff.... Might be pm'ing you shortly for some specific advise!

Thanks guys, as always,
Mark

I'll be doing a L92 based block myself. I like the Warhark option but don't like proprietary components.

Mark,

Good choice. The LS7 head and intake manifold is where the power is at, so 650hp will be no problem.
