Not sure how much this has been discussed on this sit but a guy from another board turned me on to an alternative to the Mark VIII fans and their heavy draw. He's using a dual fan set up from a 4th Gen F-body with an LT1. It fits nicely, with minimal triming, on a 4-core radiator. You can run them together or use two controllers. I plan on running a Derale adjustable controller on the secondary fan. This controller is adjustable and will also run for a few minutes after car is shut off. I will run a non adjustable one on the primary fan.

Here is a link to a story on making this controller work.

Torker has been running the dual fan 4th-gen fan. It works well. You can just make it out in one of the pictures on his website.

The MarkVIII fan is no harder to deal with than the 4th gen fan. Both need relays, but the MarkVIII just needs a heavier duty version.

When I get my car back from paint I will post pics of my installation.I mounted 02 camaro ss fans on my chevelle. I needed to use two relays because it was too much output for one. It would just keep blowing the relay. I will drive the car about 1 block and it will have cooled down 20 degrees in that short time. I highly recommend them

Mark,

The link you posted is of a friend on mine's car here in Houston. That setup works great. I am using the same setup out of an LT1 vette on an original 4 core radiator and it fits like it was made for that particular radiator. (very minimal trimming) I run 2 relays with a single thermostatic switch. The 455 never gets over 190.

How are you guys mounting these? Besides welding tabs to the side of the radator? Haven't decided to run these or the dual Spal fans. I need to read about the Mark fan.

Thanks,
Kevin

I use the Mark VIII fan with a DC Controller from DC Controls. No need for a relay with this unit-I mounted mine by using 1/8" aluminum bar stock as brackets and just bent them to the shape I needed and fastened them to my mounting ears on the shroud. Unlike using a t-stat controller or a relay, this design allows a gradual increase in fan speed based on temperature of the coolant-no on/off cycles which mean a more stable coolant temp. It's really just a new twist on the electric fan set-up. You can get both units for about 280-290 bucks or so. Not a bad deal IMO. -Jabin
