Hey guys,I have a question to ask anyone who knows about or who has purchased a front and rear suspension for a 69 camaro.
There are so many companies making products for these cars it's hard to decide. What I want is my camaro to handle like my old '01 corvette and ride a least as good or better than it.I thought about
Air Ride or DSE'S package or maybe Global West and their package.
I don't think that going with the bolt on a C5 suspension is going to
be in my budget, so probably I won't be going with 21st Century or
Wayne Due.What do you think- 4 link or leaf springs ?Any thoughts
would be greatly appreciated !

The ATS "Chicane-LM" suspension system with AFX spindles and the appropriate rear leaf spring.

Or, the Global West CAT IV suspension system.

Either system is pretty much the cats meow for handling and ride comfort for a 1st Gen F-body. The Chicane-LM system, for the money, is the way to go. It utilizes not only some of their own priority components but a few from Global West as well. There are just some things that cant be improved upon.

ATS is a sponser here... and they are a Global West dealer. Their new website is still under construction, so it would be better to call them. You can find their link to the right of this web page >>>>

Have you ridden in one with one of these set-ups ?Is it a harsh ride?Everyone that I have heard of says that the Air Ride Technology shock wave and air bar set-up rides like a caddy, which is what I want ,but I have also read on this forum that the system doesn't handle too terrific.I suppose I'll have to give up one or the other, huh?

Have you ridden in one with one of these set-ups ?

I'd say the likelyhood of that is pretty high...

What is ATS's "Chicane" package? Couldn't find it on their site.

Thanks.

IT is only shown in their catalog. It is tall AFX spindles, a splined sway bar, faster steering box, some rebuild items for stock a-arms, and some new cross shafts that are an upgrade compared to stock. It also has new springs and adjustable spring pockets. It looks pretty nice. It would also be very stealthy depending on the look you are going for.

"Air Ride Technology shock wave and air bar set-up rides like a caddy, which is what I want ,but I have also read on this forum that the system doesn't handle too terrific"

There is two things wrong with that sentance... first, the ride quality will resemble a modern luxury sports sedan.... not like a sloppy titanic 70-80's caddy... and also if the car is set up right, they handle wonderful.....

I'm gonna have to agree with tony. If you're looking for a poorly controlled, sloppy ride...air ride is not for you. The only caddys that ride like the ART stuff I've ridden in were the v-series cars.

I will have to agree as well.. the Shockwave stuff we put on the '76 Camaro handled just fine and the overall ride quality was VASTLY better than before.

I think the old school air-bag systems gave the whole technology a black eye.. Things are not quite the same anymore and the sytem is much much improved. Remember that some air-bag systems do suck, others are very nice. If you get set on a air-spring suspension then I would only look at Air Ride Technologies and their Shockwave system.

If you go another route you would be very happy with ATS, DSE or Global West.. all make great products. The key to still having a good ride will be picking the right parts from them (or having them help you pick).

First I would replace the body bushings with GW or DSE so you know your platform is solid. Depending on your budget you could next upgrade the front/rear springs using GW bushings too. If you aren't sure of the condition of the rest of the front end I'd rebuild it. That was my approach. You can always keep evolving. Happy driving!
