Hi,

I currently own a 64 Chevelle SS which is quite unique in that it is a rare Canadian built 2dr coupé and it is also probably the only remaining 64 Chevelle which was sold in Norway and has been driven here since. But I don't care too much about numbers matching and history of a car anyway (that's why I'm here, right). I want a car that is fast and fun to drive while also being reliable and easy to maintain. Considering that gasoline prices here are more than double that in the US it is also nice to be able to drive economically if I want to. I currently have a 96 LT1 with a 4L60E in it and am very happy with the engine. I also have upgraded the suspension a little with new poly bushings, Edelbrock shocks and Eibach springs.

Anyway, to the point :). I have found an interesting car on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1,1&item=4643975503&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT

My dilemma is should I buy this Camaro and sell my Chevelle or instead build the Chevelle to a really great Pro-Touring car? I'll have $10-12k to spend on the Chevelle if I don't buy the Camaro. The Chevelle isn't in perfect condition paint or interios wise so I'll need some spending there as well as on suspension and drivetrain.

Thanks for any advice, I really appreciate it.

I'd lean towards the Chevelle, but I'm a bit biased towards the A-bodies.

Do you think that the 10-12k you'd have left over would be sufficient to get the Chevelle to where you'd want it to be?

I would lean more towards the Chevelle. We always want to change/add something to our cars whether they are done or not. If you can achieve your goal with the Chevelle the way YOU want it on your budget even better.

Hmm. That car has been shown on this site before. I cannot remember by whom, but he/she may be a member. Very nice. I too would do the Chevelle, but dont do anything that cannot be taken back to stock easily.

as an owner of a 64 ss also, have some fun with it. just keep all the original parts so that if you or someone else ever wants to put it back to stock they can. most everything that you will do is bolt on anyways. please post a picture no matter the condition of the car

Hi and thanks a lot for your replies! What I want to make the Chevelle a great car is (highest priority first):

- Disc brakes, was thinking Baer
- Suspension geometry improvement, Global West kit or other.
- Body adjustment. 3/4" to far to the right in the front and the opposite in the rear. Also have some water leaks around the side windows due to the door not being aligned properly with the weatherstripping.
- Interior leather is really nice and white but I need new dash. Covans or Daktota Digital. Covans will look better in the Chevelle I think, but DD seems to have more features.
- New wheels and tires. Was thinking 245/40/17 front and 265/40(35?)/17 rear.
- Clean up the wiring and sound deadening.
- Car looks great a car length away but I should sooner or later get it repainted, have a few dings and scratches here and there.
- Engine upgrades
- Long tube ceramic coated headers!
- Would probably need to make the 4L60E stronger and also get a new rear axle if engine is tuned. Any idea how much torque/hp a stock 4L60E could handle?
- New alu radiator

This is my first car/project so I need a lot of feedback and suggestions. Also I guess bolt on kits are a good idea although I dream about C5 suspension, rack & pinion steering etc :) Thanks in advance for all your support. What parts do you recommend and where should I buy them?

Lastly, do you think the Camaro is a good deal? It should be a pleasure to drive, right?

That Camaro would look a lot better if they hadn't slagged everything down with Afrosheen!

Having built at 64 Chevelle, I say stick with the 64. IF you're interested in body mod's check out some of the little tricks I did on mine (LED tial lights, custom front grill, dash, etc). Hopefully it will inspire you to keep the 64
