I just got into this new Dirt Track (IMCA Sport Compact) class that calls for 4 bangers only. I bought an 85 Olds Calais on our local auction for $150, and it runs.....well like a 4 cyclinder:hand:!! It the 2.5 Liter, anyone know how to get more power?? Oh ya, it has to stay stock:bsjerk: .

Start with the basics, intake, exhaust, Spark/Timing. Pull the cam, take it to a local machine shop and have the base circle cut down. This means the valvetrain needs adjustment to compensate, but can make a big difference. Port and polish the heads (errr. . . head).

Man - if that is the engine I think it is... throw it out and go find a VW SOHC from a 76-83 Rabbit. Solid overhead cam from the factory and a non-interferance engine. The one in my old FSP GTI saw 8000RPM more than a couple of times

Is that 2.5L or less??

What are the rules? Any 4 banger that remains stock?

EJ25's can make good power, plus it has a much lower center of gravity from the horizontally opposed design. Plus you can get em for cheap because they have been out for quite a bit, and used in aircraft.

The car must be 12 years old, front wheel drive, 4 pass. car...and the engine rules are-

ENGINE: 4 cylinder only. Maximum 2.5 liter. Single cam only. All components must be OEM unaltered for year, make and model of car used. No turbo charged, super charged or rotary engines."

ej's are out, since they are dual cam.

...no mods really takes the fun out of it.
