I just found out that my car is going to be
in Popular Hot Rodding Magazine:jump:
I am going to be meeting Johnny Hunkins PHR photographer extrodinair this weekend in Columbus Ohio to participate in the True Street Challenge. This will involve a 30 mile cruise
followed by 3 quarter mile passes on the National Trail Race track...
Johnny is going to get some action shots at the track and then later we will take the car out for a photo shoot.
They plan on doing a 6-8 page feature on the car.
I am so excited and nervous I can hardly sleep.

I want to extend a big thank you to Steve Rupp for helping hook me up for this this great opportunity

That is really cool. Congratulations. Is this going to be a challenge with street / drag cars or ProTour cars? How fast will the cars be?

Congratd's Scott. I just finished up a photo shoot with PHR this past weekend. It was so fun watching all the detail's that go into getting a good shot. I have to thank Stephen Kimm for the opportunity and camera lessons. Be shure to take a bunch of pictures of them doing the shoot. Again congrad's and you are going to have a blast.

Cars are mostly drag type cars. When I did the event, I was the only car running normal radials, and probably the only one not running 15's. It's basically a bracket race type deal.

OH YEAH I remember your car. I was showing everyone I know about how you reinforced your engine compartment. That is an extremely well built Mustang. I love your car and look forward to reading the full article in the magazine!! I actually have pics of your engine compartment printed out for inspiration on heathers Mustang. Its awesome how your reinforcement bars all come together like that. Very very impressive. This is the pic I am talking about.
We ended up going with chrome and stainless steel.
If I had realized it was your car I would have asked where you got those bars from.

That car is tooo HOT! I don't think PHR has asbestos pages, it might burn pages right out of the mag!

Dang thats reasonably priced too. We will definetly buy those for the next 67 Mustang we get. (the fastback) For this coupe we will go all polished or chrome pieces. However the next one I think we will go with these for sure for the brushed look.

Not to mention most likely the only one not wearing jean overalls or Adidas high-tops with the tongue sticking out, Metallica concert shirt from the "Ride The Lightening" tour, and a giant mullet.

Congratulations Scott.
I know the feelings you are going thru. Just get a good night's sleep the night before. You, my friend are about to learn what really goes into a magazine article. Johnny is the man, and does top notch photography, but....... you will know at the end of the day why! He is not happy with ok, he demands perfection. While we all expect that in the magazine, I never realized what that meant. One word of advise, before you get to the final setting, the sunset picture, THE FRECKING PERFECT SHOT DEAL, be sure you got plenty gas! Johnny really hates people that run out of gas....:bicycle: Ask me how I know!

Anyway, enjoy the experience, it will be something you will not soon forget, then like Steve said, be prepared for the longest two or three months of your life, waiting for that day when you get your own copy.

I'll throw my 2 cents.

Make sure you got a good battery. I had a little 13lb race thing that could only handle a few startups without heavy charging. For the shoot I put the optima from my truck in. Glad I did. I think my car was started close to a hunderd times that day. No, seriously. All that start up and move it here and there for the right shot. The brake test was really taxing since the carb would flood everytime and it would take at least 30 seconds of cranking to clear it out.

Another thing that ticks off Johnny is headlights or taillights that are out. He loves having them on so just check them. Other than that, don't do any major changes to the car and bring a friend to help.

I agree the wait will be long for the issue. I had to wait 2 months and the others that were there that day had to wait longer. Also expect someone to call you up at 6am trying to sell you a plaque of the article. All those pages will cost you:pat:

Congrats and have fun!

Quicksilver and I just got back in town from the PHR photo shoot/True Street drag event @ National Trail Raceway.
What a rush. I have never had a car on the track so I was really excited.
We started by taking a 30 mile cruise then back to the track for three
1/4 mile runs. They do not let you open the hood or work on the car once you start on the cruise. The only thing you can adjust is the tire pressure.
I didn't make any adjustments to the car prior to or during the event.
I thought about putting on drag radials, removing front sway bar, lowering rear tire pressure, using race fuel etc..But I decided to run it as I do when I drive the car on the street.
The 1/4 mile passes were done in hot lap fashion.
Down the strip.
Back down the return lane.
Straight to the start line and run it again.
No cool down period.
The car ran great. No problems.
(Keep in mind that I waited for this car to be built for 1 year and it only has 300 miles on it since completion.)

My 60' times really sucked. (best 60' 2.2) https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2006/06/geeza-1.gif
I was extremely traction limited and had to really baby the throttle off the line.
Once I got rolling it seemed to go pretty good.
My best time was 13.2 @ 110 MPH.
What surprised me was that I crossed the finish line in 3rd gear @ about 5700 RPM's. (3.73 rear end ratio, 26" tire 1.34 3rd gear ratio). I really thought that I would have to shift into 4th before crossing the line.
The photo shoot with Johnny was awesome.
I had no idea how much work goes into doing a quailty shoot.
We shot pictures for 6 straight hours https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2005/04/eek-1.gif
He worked my dad,my two buddies and I like borrowed mules.
He is truly a perfectionist...
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2005/04/thumbsup-1.gif to Popular Hot Rodding, Johnny Hunkins and Steve Rupp for allowing me this opportunity.
Scott
p.s. BuddyP is going to post up some pics for me.
p.s.s. I am no longer a POSEUR :3gears:

lol.. that's the perfect picture of how Johnny runs a photo shoot.. damn that's a good quote! lol

Congrats and driving your car as God intended. It's what seperates the talkers from the doers. Considering your car is not a drag car that's a pretty good time. Your MPH indicates that you should be able to hit 12's with some traction.

Oh, and not going into 4th gear is a good thing.

Congrats on the track time and the photo shoot.. can't wait to check out the images..

Steve,
Yeah he is like a mad scientist when he is working.
From the time I met him at the track (9 a.m.) until the sun went down he was on a mission!
I probably made a big mistake when I gave him the
two Sugar Free Red Bulls during the photo shoot :seizure:
I should have known better!

Buddy,
You are no Johnny Hunkins but you got some nice shots ..
It was really cool to take my Dad to this event.
He worked for Ford for 42 years:worship:
He will turn 70 this September and he hasn't lost his enthusiasm and energy for cool cars..
He rode with me on the 30 mile cruise..

My Dad is the one that got me into cars.
He found a 65 Mustang vert for me 30 years ago.
I restored the car (to the best of my ability)back to original
and then sold it after 14 years for a down payment on my 1st house. Quicksilver is the 5th Mustang that I have I owned.

Props to Jason Huber "Datsbad" for overnighting me some G Force Design Concepts T shirts for my "crew"

...."Buddy,
You are no Johnny Hunkins but you got some nice shots".....

You got that right, I'm not brave enough to hold a 4' x 6' peice of reflective material and a camera while hanging out of a sunroof at 70 mph LOL!

Oh.. and I almost forgot...

CHIPS!

Wow, that is a nice car you bought !!! How much did you pay for that? I'm sure a restore/modified pony would run a little over a hundred fifty, right? And all you have to do is keep it clean and serviced.
