Hi everyone,
Can you tell me if this is a decent price to have my Camaro ship from Northern California to Elgin, Illinois (just about 30 minutes from OHare airport) for $1395.00 or are there any other place that will/can do it less than what McNutt or DAS quoted?
BTW the car is not running.
Thanks a lot!

Hi Sam,
The mileage from San Jose to O'Hare is about 1700 miles give or take a few. You'll be paying less than a dollar per mile to get the Camaro shipped which isn't too bad. With a reputable shipping company, you're also getting their expertise, insurance, and quality equipment, plus experienced operators. Pay a little more and you'll be happy you did.
I have hauled horses cross country and currently it's $1.75/mile, door-to-door (or stall-to-stall??). Vehicles are much cheaper to transport as you don't have to unload and feed them each night.
As far as comparables go, that will take some research. Hopefully, some of the other P-Ters will have some thoughts.

Elgin?! That's where I went to High School!!! Small world.
Seems about right, for a car that is not running it seems pretty good. Do they know it's not running!? I had a car shipped from New Yprk to So. Cal last year, and went with one of the big transporters, Reliable Carriers. It was several hundred more, but the car was fully insured, and brought out in a really, really nice semi hauler. Really nice. It is my understanding that the majority of the carriers are really just brokers, and they find room on trucks that aren't necessarily their own, but I can't substantiate that as fact.

Yes, it is a small world to know you're from Elgin. I'm class of 1986 myself. I plan to move back soon. I've been out here for a while, I need to go back to my root. Keep in touch....

Have you seen a Orange ZL1 69 Camaro at the corner gas station ? That shipping price is very fair if it is a enclosed carrier.

I would not use DAS, I paid for an enclosed trailer and the car sat outside in the weather in NJ while it waited to be loaded on another truck for a couple days. When I picked it up they had just finished "washing" it for me with a scrub brush on a broom handle. One of the wheels got gouged in shipping as well, I have been trying to get them to pay for over a month, I will never use them again.

Hey, where exactly are you? My parents lived on McLean Blvd and Larkin ave. We might meet up sometime if it is okay with you.
Sam
for what it is worth, I used DAS to ship a 99 Lexus from Orange County, CA to Cincy Ohio (similar distance) on an open transport and it was around $950 or so.
i had no complaints.

Can I ask you when did you ship that car? The reason I asked is because right now the going rate is about $1400.00 from Northern Cal to Chicago.
Thanks,
Sam
