I am not going to spoil for anyone that did not see the race and wants to watch TiVO, but I have to tell you, THAT was one of THE most exciting races I have ever seen. I am not a huge fan of IRL, I prefer road racing, but WOW!!!!! Ubelievable.
If this doesn't give you a reason to start watching IRL again, NOTHING will. Just amazing, completely amazing.

That finish was unbelievable. I'm also not a big IRL fan or anything, but that was awesome to watch. :headbang:
I don't understand how those cars can pass each other so easily since the cars are so close in capabilities, especially when you're talking about the top 5 or 10 contenders. I watch road racing every once in a while, and I don't think Trans Am or World Challenge cars, for example, can pass each other with that amount of ease. When one person has that big of a lead going into the last 2 laps in a T/A race, the race is pretty much over from what I've seen.

Glad I recorded it! Just got back from Lime Rock. It'll make some great viewing.

Draft. Get within ten car lengths and the car you're following turns into a vacuum cleaner.

I went to the big one in '95 on Delta Faucet's tab. That was the sponsor for Stan Fox's car and we had a huge dinner with him and the team the night before the race. He had one of the fastest cars there (Honda and Firestone combo). I was sitting next to his wife and his daughter in the suite when the crash occurred at turn two lap one and we all thought he was dead.

All of us in the suite watched the remainder of the race damn near silent. I did however have the chance to “interview” their backup driver (name forgotten) about flying at 230 mph and drafting and pulling g's in the turns. I'll never forget that trip as long as I live.

Looking at that photo makes me feel fortunate that I am not talented enough, nor crazy enough, to run with these folks. I recall seeing a similar phot of Mark Donohue, feet completely out of the car, flying through the air. Cars are far safer now, but bad stuff still happens, it's just that nature of the business. And as bad as that nature is, and as much as they do to contain it (and they have done an incredible job in all race series over the years), danger is still going to exist and there is no way to control all of the bad things that can happen. I only wish that the populace of viewers realized that the crashes, though dramatic, come at at least one human's expense.
I agree, I jumped from my seat, literally, and hoped that the youngin' was going to take it. Just amazing, I literally had tears from the drama, and it wasn't due to any fondness for any of the drivers. Just one heck of a terrific race. More, please.
