1.62 once, 1.68 several times.
68 Camaro
dual purpose road race/drag 4 link
27x9 m/t slicks
Street setup, just adjusted shocks. Oh yeah, and that is leaving without the 2 step, using a clutch the hard way! -Dan

1.60 with 17" MT et drag radials..stock suspension

ZZ4 crate motor, turbo 350 and 3500 stall. Car would come out real hard but die at top end with that converter.

I think Tony Whatlet broke into the high 1.40s on et street type tires

Wow, 1.4 is really quick. What are the specifics on his car?

Magnacharged LS6 with a T56 trans. I'm working on a similar motor for my '68. Here's his car site:

Both my camaros are triple duty, although the 67 with the bbc is now mostly a track car, although still running a license plate and insurance, while the 9 camaro with the sbc is alot more comfortable to run on the street, and will do a 500 mile trip without an issue.

Both camaros are setup similar with mono leafs in the rear and cal tracs. The 67 has rancho 9 way shocks, and the 69 has QA1 6 way shocks. The front suspension is very similar on both with QA1 adjustable coil overs and global west tubular a arms. Front shocks set on full loose, and rear shocks set to full stiff for the drags, and just set to full stiff in the front for the road courses, and slightly less for street duty. I have yet to loosen or remove the front anti-roll bar for the drags, despite being told it would help lower the 60 ft times. They seem to work ok at this point.

With the 67 bb car in n/a form it runs a mid 1.6 on a set of mt slicks, and 1.43 with a 175 shot. 9.89 @ 135.43 mph-3700+ lbs.on the juice, and 10.8 on just the engine.
The 69 sb car in n/a form has run a best of 1.73 and a 1.53 with a 75 shot. 10.89 @ 122mph-3900+ lbs. mt slicks also, with 11.8 n/a. I've since had to pull a 25 shot out of the 67 to get it back in the 10's and legal, and change from 3.73 gears to 3.42 and a 50 shot with mt et streets to not go below the 11.5 mark on the 69.

Is it worth having an adjustable shock on the front with stiff springs? It doesn't seem like much weight would transfer anyway with short stiff springs. I have stiffer springs and Edelbrock shock all the way around, but I would love to have a shock on front that I could just twist a knob and go from great handling to better drag launch. I am running on the rear, 295/45/18 Nitto radials. Next tires will be 305/45 drag radials. I want to make the car run as good on the strip as possible without changing tires or removing/replacing parts. You know what I am saying? Kind of trying to have a car that does everything well. I know it's not going to carry the wheels, but is anybody launching sub 2sec 60s with street radials?

but is anybody launching sub 2sec 60s with street radials?

I managed a 1.9x in the GTO on Nitto 555s, not the drag radials. My best in the GTO was 1.8x on a small set of ET streets 26x10x15.

In my RX7 I ran a 1.86 60 foot time on a 205/55/16 radial! I have a best of 1.60 on ET drag radials.

I managed a 1.83 on some nitto drag radials, but they are very inconsistent (for me) and no where as good at the dragstrip (for me) as either some mt et streets (1.6) and even better yet is a full slick (1.4).

If you can't get rims to fit on the back that will handle regular slicks or et streets, then I think mt radial slicks might be the best bet.

I am trying to setup my car so that I can drive it to the strip, run it and drive it home and have it perform as well as possible at both. I know you can't have a car that is a great drag car and a great street car, but a good drag car and a great street car would be neat. I have the GTO to about 3300 lbs without the driver, I have nitto 555 295/45/18 out back. I know the 15 in MT radials would hook alot better but I don't want to switch tires. I just want to set the car up to run as well as possible in street trim. Basically I want to be able to beat a new vette with my old car (on the strip).

That is the info I was looking for Andrew and Dan. I was wondering what I could hope for with the low prof tires. Are you cars stick shift, and what is your launch technique? Any adjustments to the suspension to make it launch better?

94 z28 396 lt1 nos 1.40 60 fts.

While this is a cool thread,as a former pro mod driver I can tell you 60ft times don't mean anything.

How does it not mean anything? I can see why a pro-mod driver would say that, but when you are driving something that doesn't have a whole lot more power than it could ever put to the track, then I think maybe the 60ft time is fairly important.

I would somewhat have to agree, that in our group, 60 fts mean alot!
Whenever I can drop my 60 fts a tenth, I will usually see my overall qtr mile times drop by 2-3 tenths.
I run auto trans on both cars (th400 on the 67 bb, and th350 on the 69 sb) and run 9 1/2 inch convertors on both from coan that stall around 3200 on the sb and 3500 on the bb.
I have found that true slicks (I use mt) do much better at the power level (700hp/sb-900hp/bb) and the weight of the cars (3700lbs bb-3900 lbs sb). I have used, and still do for the 69 sb car a set of mt et streets, that for me have worked much better than the nitto drag radials I used, and they let me drive the car to and from the track when need be.
I use a generous burnout in the water box (hey, I paid my entry fee) until I see a big amount of tire smoke, and then roll out of the box. I do the burnout in 3rd gear. I set the qa1 shocks in front to full soft and the rears to full firm, and run the rear tires at 12-13 lbs or air, and I run cal trac bars. (every car will be different)
If you go to the drag track on any kind of frequency, and you lose a few close races, you will want to improve your 60fts, and from a good street tire to even an et slick would be a world of difference in your drag times.
I would say an et street slick would lower your 60 ft times anywhere from 2 to 4 tenths, and that would typically lower your qtr mile times by 4 tenths to a full second depending on the power level of you car and how well it hooks in it's current configuration. Mph may not change.
The more power you put out, the bigger diff you'll see with sticky drag tires. If you weigh around 3000 lbs and are running 300 horses or so, you may not see as much improvement with the stickies.
Hope this helps. Try and borrow some and see if they help.

I resepctfully have to disagree. All the ET is in the first 60'. For example, with my street racer. If I run on motor and go a 1.48, she goes 10.70s @ 125MPH. If she is on spray and goes 1.36, it's a 9.40s @ 141MPH. If it spins any, it will lose expedentialy (sp) the difference in short time in the ET, but still run the proper MPH.
