I have a 67 GTO and it has a TKO 600 tranny. significant mods were rrequired to the trans tunnel, and stock carpet does not fit very well anymore. If I wanted to get some carpet and custom mold it to the floor, how would I go about that?

You'd get a piece of auto carpet from a upholstery shop, newer style carpets are easier to mold and will fit better, so you can smooth them to the floor, glue them in with jute padding or what ever your going to put on the floor,

If your going to go to the trouble of putting new carpet you may want to consider dynmatting.

The guys at ACC auto custom carpets told me that using a larger piece than needed from them and cutting it close to what I need and then heating it up with a heat gun or hot blow dryer would help mold it to where I was putting it.

Good luck on finding the patience and the right amount of heat to do the job but that is why they call it CUSSEDEM oops I mean CUSTOM.

Thanks for all the replies. So what I am hearing is you can basically stretch the newer carpets into shape and using a heat gun makes it easier. I may do this a little later, when I have the car painted again. I am just not to happy with the way the factory carpet is fitting to the modified floor.

Yeah, I think the heat gun idea will work well. I bought an ACC carpet awhile back and the way it is molded is by a plastic backing that appears to have been heated and pressed into position. I think that with a heat gun, some weights, and time you could do the same thing yourself.

Well, I actually got the carpet put in and I had to do a little pulling and tugging and stretching to get it where I wanted it. I had to leave some big gaps between the carpet and the floor in a couple of places but I was counting on the carpet to eventually relax into place. We took the car on a 400 mile trip this past weekend and the carpet looks better already. I am pretyt happy all in all. I looks alot better than it did 16 years ago when I put new carpet in. I was a 17 year old wet behind the ear back then. Now I am 16 years older and just a little damp behind the ears!:smoke:
