just for fun...

I know there are some multi-brand members (e.g., Camaro + Mustang, etc.) on the board,
but most folks tend to stay within a single brand. At some point, an inventory of spare
parts and previous knowledge provides a strong motivator to stay within a particular brand.

If you current car was stolen, and you recvd a decent insurance settlement to start over, but
were forced to swap to another brand (e.g., gm->{fomoco,mopar}, fomoco->{gm,mopar},
mopar->{gm,fomoco}), what would you do? assume readily available cars -- no cobras, gt-40s,
etc.

I have a 66 Galaxie & 66 Fairlane, so I'm obviously partial to boxy land barges. For Mopar, an obvious choice would be a 1969 Plymouth Roadrunner. But there is something about the 1964 Dodge Polara that is just too good to pass up; I could not find a PT example, but you can imagine from these pics:

For GM, I really like the early impalas:

http://customrodderweb.com/features/0405cr_62chevy/

the PHR impala is esp. beautiful.

Honorable mention are the 66-67 GM A bodies, but esp. the Olds & Buick variations, just because
they are a bit different. this one is esp. nice:

anyone else want to take a shot?

Why do you have to change companies?

Its up to you what you build but i'd do the following:

Ford:
69/70 Fastback Mustang
Late 60's fairlane
Torino (Starsky and Hutch pro-touring car?!)

Chevy:
69 Camaro (to be original of course  )
67 Chevelle
84 GrandPrix (what my gf is about to start building)
69-70 Nova

Mopar:
Cuda (later style, expensive but would be cool)
Challenger (same but be even cooler!)
Dart
And last but not least i think it'd be cool to build a Duster or Demon. Price would be that high because they're not as highly desired by mopar fans as the cuda or challenger. You can pick up a duster pretty cheap and have alot of money left to start the project.

Oh that's easy. If my Camaro were gone, there's really only one choice for me. The style, performance--it's ALL good. But exclusivity is my top priority, so it has to be a YUGO:

I would switch to AMC, and get a Dalorean(sp?). Do it up PT style; I would also put a flux compasitor in it so when I hit the nitrous button it would light up.

I didn't know AMC made the Delorean, i thought it was an independent company and some had Volvo engines...Only problem with a delorean is all that stainless steel weighs ALOT. They sold a replica on ebay a while back that looked like the one from Back to the Future, the lights even lit up and everything on the "flux capacitor."

>Why do you have to change companies?

just to keep it interesting... switching from a 65 model X to a 66 model X didn't seem like a big enough jump.

The only other brand I would even consider would be Mopar.

A Hemi 'Cuda would work.

what kinda car did you have before? I'm guessing ford because you're mentioning chevy's and mopars...I think if i had to do it all over (even though i havn't really started on my 69 camaro) i'd build a 69 mustang fastback if i could find one (would settle for 70 or maybe even 67-68 fastbacks), or a Duster. I think a Duster would be a bad ass pro-touring project and it would definitly be much different than anything i've seen regularly.

Ford - 1969 Mustang Mach 1, 1965 Mustang Fastback

Chrysler - 1969 Barracuda Notch Back, '70 Challanger

AMC - 1968 Javalin, 1969 Rebel

Flux Capacitors are for girls! Why stop at time travel when you can cross into another dimension with an Oscillation Overthruster.

Anyway, there's no need for anyone to hold a gun to my head. My top ten list only includes one Chevy.

1) 70 Challenger T/A
2) 68 or 69 Barracuda
3) 70 Torino GT
4) 70 El Dorado
5) 69 Mustang
6) 74 Trans Am
7) 68 Impala
8) 55 Chrysler 300
9) 71 Super Bee
10) 69 Grand Prix Model J

If I had to do something besides one of my beloved Chevrolets, I would do:

A 1969 or 1970 (same car) Shelby convertible clone, with Pro Tour treatment. I would do it Factory Turquoise and white guts with custom 18" / 20" 345 Shelby wheels / tires, and late model SVT Cobra interior and drivetrain. That one is a distant possibility

This one is a very distant dream because the hulk is so damn expensive, but the one that keeps me up at night. A 1971 cuda convertible, 18" / 20" wheels big cube Blown Aluminum Hemi, Viper 6 speed and suspension, Panther pink with a HEMI billboard, with Black leather, Oh Yeah baby!!!

And the one that will happen after Prodigy will be for Lisa, 1969 Trans Am Convertible clone, Black with red TA stripes and badges, with red guts, to match her Black / Red 2000 WS6 convertible. 18" / 20" 345 Retro TT wheels / tires. A Prodigy Bar, Late model LS1 Drivetrain, (forced induction to be decided), 6 speed, This one I am hunting the shell now.

Others that I think would be cool would be:

1965 Pro Tour Riviera, love the look of those things, love the hideaway headlights
1959 Cadillac convertible with a TT 500" Caddy motor, Pro tour style with 20" / 22" wheels / tires
1967 GTO, Mega inch Pontiac motor and tires for days
1972 Triumph TR6 with a ls1 drivetrain, Pro Tour

I could go on for days.................

I've always stayed within the GM family, but I've developed a desire for one or some of the following:

Mid '60s Ford Falcon, or better yet, a Mercury comet.
'67 to '69 Barracuda fastback
'68 or '69 Mustang. Fastbacks are cool but notch backs are different.
A Valiant from the mid to late sixties.
AMC Hornet, or even a Gremlin.
'65 Buick A-body (oh, wait. That's GM too)

What would I use for drive trains? :rolleyes5 Now you're asking for too much! :seizure:

If I had to switch it up from GM, the cars I would build would be in this order:

1). '70 Cuda
2). '70 Challenger
3). '69 Fastback

These would all be full framed cars (reguardless of make/model, my next car will be full frame). The Mopars would recieve an 03+ Viper drivetrain and some twins. The Stanger would get an 03 Cobra drivetrain (modded of course :)).

Funny that this topic comes up now... I've spent 7 years on my '68 Camaro and it is now "done." I want to tear it apart and do it again now that I've learned a few things... but at the same time I want to enjoy it for awhile first... so I've been looking at a second project to do before getting back into the Camaro.

I've been looking at a lot of different possibilities.

1. 65-66 Ford Mustang Fastback.
2. Datsun 240Z.
3. 69-70 Ford Mustang Mach I.
4. 68-72 'Vette convertible.
5. 1968-69 AMC AMX .
6. '69 Chevy Chevelle.

Of course I really love 'Cudas, Firebirds, the 64-67 GTOs, Monte Carlos (1970), as well as some foreign cars (Jag XKE comes to mind) and exotics (GT40 replicar).

Hey that Yugo might make a pretty sweet little pro-touring car with enough work...Look what a little photoshop did for it!

I think that a 240Z would probably be in order... Maybe a BMW M3, or an Audi S4
I doubt it would be a American (don't hurt me)
