Is it possible to get 550-600 hp out of an ls6 without any power adders? how would you do it ?

stock displacement? Flywheel power? A brutal heads/cam combo on a stock displacement can get you 550-600 flywheel. it will not be streetable according to my standards. If it's stroked then that's easy. Heck you might even get close to those numbers at the wheels. That would be streetable though. What are your plans for this motor? Or what is the intended use of the vehicle?

The motor would have to be streetable. WS6 when you say stroked are you stating that the displacement would also be increased, and increased to what? I am putting it in a 69 Camaro vert and want a reliable motor with decent mileage. Thanks

it's really not that hard,i've seen bone stock ls-6 vettes chassis dyno 400's which is what the motor is rated.some nice heads and a cam will put you real close.i had a n 02 zo6 for awhile and it rwhp was 398.

What type of dyno was this done on? Most all stock C5 Z06 dyno sheets I've seen have been between 350-360rwhp. I haven't heard of one dynoing 400rwhp stock?

I make 489rwhp in my z06. Thats damn near 550 at the motor

383 LS6 block
AFR 225 heads
FAST 90mm intake
kooks headers
232/236 cam.

can drive it to work every day, never overheats at all, and can get 28mpg on the freeway (I average about 17mpg with a lot of spirited driving)

I think it was a mustang dyno,I dont remember now.

Dave, yes stroked means upping the displacement. 383 or higher will get 500rwhp and be streetable. you can make a 427 out of an LS engine. www.motorsporttech.com these guys are probrably the best in the country with stroked motors. so is a company called Cartek in NJ. stroked LS engines are not cheap though. however if you want streetable and that type of power your going to need the bigger displacement.

now here's my thoughts on building a street NA LS. don't shoot for more than 420s at the wheels. the reason being is that all the high HP stock displacement LS engines, do not make a lot of torque nor do they make street power. your having to rev the hell out of the engine to get into the powerband. that to me is no fun on the street. personally i would do all the simple bolt ons with an LS6 intake. do not waste your money on a FAST intake. i'd not even bother with a ported throttle body. get some nicely ported LS6 heads($1100) or AFR 205s($2100) then a nice mild cam something like a 224/224 or a 228/228. you'll make great midrange power and pull all the way to redline. you will still have excellent bottom end power. you'll loose a little over stock down low but nothing like you would with a 230+ duration cam. you should make close to 420s at the wheels with close to 400 ftlbs of torque. it will be very realiable and very streetable. those are my thoughts though. i prefer to have fun and enjoy simply driving my car versus posting some low ET or win some bragging contest over dyno numbers. power under the curve is what i want. that's what makes a great street engine. not one that must be downshifted and hammered to make it move. just my thoughts though

Mustang Dynos, dyno lower than dyno jets. 400rwhp from a stock C5 Z06 sounded extremely far fetched on a dyno jet, but no way on a mustang dyno. I know guys get close to or eclipse 400rwhp with full bolt ons, but not stock.

My error I found the dyno slip for it surprised I still had it,Anyway it was 378 on a dynojet.

There used to be 2 dyno's in town one of each and of my memory I couldnt recall which.

But that bone stock.

Forgive my error

Trey, thanks for the info, I checked out MTI's web site, I must admit I was impressed. I really liked their 427 stroked motor. This may punch my ticket, thanks.

Your welcome Dave. There are many many combinations out there to choose from. Check this forum out as it's nothing but people posting dyno results from different modifications and combinations. This will allow you to see how and where a particular combination makes it's power. http://ls1tech.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=65

MTI are good people to deal with. but dont be in a hurry. good stuff takes a little time sometimes.
