Just about any ratio was available on the option list, but odds are the ratio is somewhere around 2:76 and 3:08.

If you have the car there, jack up one wheel (open rear, no posi) and leave the other on the ground.

Be sure to block the front tires and use a jackstand, safety first!

Turn the wheel exactly two full revolutions, while counting the number of turns the driveshaft makes.

If the shaft makes 2-3/4 turns then you have 2.78s. If it makes a little over 3 turns, you have 3.08s, 3-1/4 turns means 3.23s, etc.

It's not hard to do, mark the driveshaft and watch it turn while a helper slowly turns the tire for you.

I would guess 2.78 or 2.56, my Tempest had a 215-six originally (same as a Chevy 230 with a smaller bore) and it had a 2-speed auto with 2.56 gears.

I believe they are 3.08's I have the same set up as you, but mine's a 67. I've often wondered the same thing, cause I'm debating on throwing in this 700R4 I have laying around. That PG is terrible, and no OD on the highway really stinks!

I had a 70 six cylinder Camaro (actually very unusual)
I think there was only a couple of thousand made and mine was a no option car. It had 3.08 in the rear interesting enough it had a 8.5 not 8.2 inch rear. 70 are supposed to still have 8.2 if they didn't have the 12 bolt.

My 67 6cyl pg had 2.73's as did most of them. A rare find 6 cyl RS can be a whole different thing.

A good friend of mine has a stock 6 cylinder Nova with a 700 R4 installed in the car replacing the stock Powerglide.

WOW! What a difference.

The deep first gear with the .7 overdrive really makes that 6 cylinder engine run great. Makes the car feel like it has a small V8 as far as power is concerned and the fuel mileage is incredible!

Mike! Thats exactly what I want to do with my 67! I'd like to throw in this 700R4 I have laying here, but don't know how I'm going to hook up the TV Cable to the 1 barrei linkage. I've been debating on getting an adapter plate and switch it to the 2 barrel.
Can you get a few pics of your buddies Nova? Or at least describe his set up? Thanks!

Another option is to put the 4L60E in. The electronic controls eliminate the TV cable and you can custom tune the shift points to the 230's power band.

The 230 is a great engine. I had one in a 64 Chevelle in the 70s. I put a Saginaw 4 speed in and it really woke it up. With a small 4bbl, offy intake and 2.25 inch exhaust system, the otherwise stock engine would chirp the tires in 3rd gear and got great gas mileage.
