Just want to know if the pics load slow or fast? It seems to me like they are slower than other pics I look at. Just trying to make them load faster. Any help or hints would be appreciated.

I only ask because the Lateral-G home page has over 170cars at the bottom and they load instantly!!!! http://www.lateral-g.net/

Thats what I get too here at work and at home. Any idea why??? Something with the way the page is set up? I mean its really as basic as it gets. Seems like it should load faster. Any help from the programers or site builders would really be appreciated.

Your thumbnail pics are 24 times the file size of the ones on the other site,

Ok I think I see whats wrong but I dont have a clue how to fix it. My thumbnails are the exact same size as teh full pics. even though they are really small looking thumbnails they appear thru the programming as the full image. If you look at this site http://www.ls1tech.com/Events/YearOne2006/index.htm
His thumbnails are small in size 2650 but then when you click the pic it is 95443 in size. Now how do I get my thumbnails to be smaller in size like that? Dang I could fix my entire site if this gets figured out.

Make thumbnails for all your pics and then use them to link to the bigger pics.

Are you serious? Seems like that would take forever!! Is that really what everyone does? I have dang near 1000 pics to get posted on my site!

I use Front Page and it makes thumbnails and links to the originals by itself.

Just use a program to do it.
http://www.fookes.com/ezthumbs/
pretty sure frontpage can do it if you use that,(what he said lol)

you can use photoshop to automate thumbnail making, or use a gallery php backend that can automate it. (example http://www.turboninjas.com/gallery/FriendsHosting/Matt/ note the sub 3k size compared to 128k for your pics)
They load slow because they are about 50x bigger than they should be.
If you have image ready or photoshop you can use them... if not there are free programs around that can automate the action. It's a pain, but worth it, especially if you pay for bandwidth.

How do I set myself up with frontpage or is it too late for that? Sounds awesome! Thanks a lot for the replies so far. Im still learning and I want my site to be as fast as possible for everyone to view. I wondered why the heck it too so long for all my pics to load! Now I know why. I was linking my thumbnails to the original pics. Thats all I ever knew how to do.

I have photoshop at home I just have to install it again. I would have to put it on my game PC but then there is somewhere in there that would automatically make thumbnails? That Front Page thing sounds like the best option so far. I just want the easiest option. And cheapest.

Scott from Lateral-G just helped me a lot too. He also said I need to make thumbnail images. Then he found these 2 lines in my files and said I need to delete them.

<meta http-equiv="Cache-Control" content="no-cache">
Thanks for the help everyone. I will see what I can do about thumbnails over the weekend hopefully. I have about 1000 pics from recent road race events to get posted up. No sense in posting them until I make all the thumbnails first.
I hate front page... but I do web design...so I'm biased.
scott's right too...
You can use the automate actions... I think there is a way with image ready too.

For the web stuff I have done for my brothers photography company, I created an action in Photoshop to open the pic, resize it to the big pic, and save it to a different directory, then had it do the same for the thumbnail in a different directory. It took about 5 minutes to run through all the pics he wanted me to do, about 45 or so that were HUGE.

How did you do that? I have been looking around for about an hour trying to figure out how to make thumbnails in photoshop. I can resize the pic by 100x75 or whatever I want but its still around 20,000bytes in size. Better but I know it can get smaller. Scott and Tonys thumbnails are around 2,000bytes. I will be up for a few more hours so I will check back to see if anyone replied. I have Adobe Photoshop 7.0 if that helps any.

You can run a batch in Photoshop. I did something like that years ago but can't remember how any longer. Try reading up on creating a batch. Sorry I'm not more help.

I couldnt figure out how to do it using Photoshop so I downloaded a file called IrFanView that someone recommended. Seems to work real well so far. I took some pics that were 464,367 bytes down to 4,000bytes. WAYY better! Now I just have to find the time to redo the majority of my site. :hmm:
I also just finished recording 25-30 videos from the last few road track events to my PC. Now I need to get them downloaded to my site and posted on this site.
