Hey guys, I competed in an amateur MMA/pankration fighting tournament this weekend and thought I'd share the videos of my fights. If you guys are into MMA/ultimate fighting, this is a safe intro into the sport. In the first vid, I'm wearing the plain black shirt and black boardshorts.

Fight 1 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XbA3q9DzQMA This was my first competition ever, so I was extremely nervous, particularly against a GRACIE trained guy, heh. I should have worked my standup more but I just couldn't let my hands fly, it felt like my arms were stuck. The reverse triangle I catch him in is a move I get all the time, but I should have tried to sit up and finish the triangle. I went for a kimura and he got knee control and escaped. That toehold was pretty sad, but the achilles lock was even worse, lol. Oh well, he won on points but I feel ok about it. He never had me in danger and I think I had him pretty flustered.

Fight 2 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3uP73ggaSzY I had 1000% more confidence going into this fight. I could see this guy was scared and I wanted to punish him for my first loss. I finally got going with my stand-up and it was pretty clear on the ground that he didn't know wtf I was going for. Afterwards he told me "I still don't know how you choked me, I just remember gagging."

Fight 3 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OTu9bDLEKmA This is against a teammate, so I kinda felt bad. We agreed to just go at it with no hard feelings. What transpired was one of the goofiest frog-looking sprawls in history, so please laugh at my expense.

Pretty good fights. How exactly did you get into MMA? What is your background?

I never really practiced any martial art or wrestling when I was younger, but I've been a fan of MMA for years. I found out a friend of mine trained and signed up at his gym. I've been training for only 6 months, but 5-6 days a week. I've trained under Eddie Millis of the Shark Tank, Chris "The Westside Strangler" Brennan and now mostly with his student Russ Miura. I train in brazilian jiu jitsu, wrestling and muay thai.

MMA is getting huge down your way, Alabama and Mississippi have some really good fighters. There's probably a school somewhere near you.

I love UFC...I will be buying the up coming fight Gracie versus Matt Hughes.

If boxing winners were as cut and dry as UFC I would still watch it, but TOO many bad decisions have turned me off of boxing.

UFC...a majority of the time the winner is obvious, even when the loser isnt sprawled out on the mat in need of help from teammates and/or medical physicians.

Cool vids! You're doing pretty well for only training for a few months. Keep up your training and you'll be damn good in a year or two.

I did Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in Lubbock, TX with a guy named Klay Pittman for almost 2 years, but haven't been doing it for about a year and a half now because of too much schoolwork. Pittman got his black belt from Carlos Mochado, who got his from Carlos Gracie Jr, brother of Royce. It's a lot of fun, and an awesome workout if you're looking to get into shape. Sparring for an hour or two continuously is one of the most tiring things I've ever done. Definitely worse than wrestling, and we were state champs two times in high school.
