So I have a wicked short somewhere in the back half of the car, my tail lights do some truely retarded things and it's sucking my battery dry.

I'm still getting parts together (again) for the build but I feel like driving it around now and then on the current setup.

The question is what advice do you all have on running the wires in a modular way that won't drive me nuts down the road. Perhaps sections with special connectors (make it easier to find problems) or certain types of wires or looms that will be wise for me to do now?

First off your problem could be in your steering column, and not your taillight wiring at all. Second, if it is in your harness, buy a American Autowire factory replacment harness from us and you will be good for another 40 years

I agree with Mr. frank. I was having the same kind of problems with my car. So after messing with wires and splicing here and there I decided to try my hand at rewiring the whole car. I purchased the classic kit from AAW and I am just finishing everything up. By far the best upgade to do. Easy to install and the directions are easy enough that even I could understand them.

So in short do not mess with it and rewire the whole car. You will will be better for it in the long run.

Check out this site on American Autowire's webpage. It gives approximate install times based on your experience level and the kit you choose.

Frank Is right get a harness from him or anyone else selling a factory type replacement that is PLUG and PLAY.
If I am not mistaken the painless kit you will have to install and trim wires to fit connectors. (Not so painless eh?)

I am in no way affiliated with prodigy and I am not trying to push his stuff But he is allways surfing this site ane lending a hand wherever he can.

if it was me id buy one from him as he knowes what he is talking about

And for your problem.
Once again Frank is right, you brake lights and turn signals go through a switch inside your steering colum. Id be willing to bet you that your problem is as simple as your turn signal switch

If you replace the harness, get the turn signal switch as well or youl have the same problem with only a new harness.

Cal Prodigy talk with frank and see if his harness is complete factory plugs and all, If it is, then a monkey can install it.
Gm was smart and did not duplicate plugs, they are all made to go in one place.

And while your at it Replace all the gnd straps (that are most likely missing anyways) going from the firewall to engine and from the battery to rad core suport.
It will make your engine, transmission, ujoints and rear end bearings last longer =)

The brake lights go through the turn signal switch, When You have the left turn signal on and the brakes depressed The left brake light power is redistributed (and isolated) through the flasher unit and to the left front and rear Bright side filiments. the ground is at the trunk ONLEY.
