Well...my painter guy is finishing a Challenger right now and then he has a quick job to do on a '40 Ford and them I'M NEXT. Tentative date he gave me was July 5th. I gave up my quest to paint the car myself, hence the reason I had to wait another year. Right now I am scrambling like a mad dog to get her ready. I've been goin' howg wild in the garage the past few weekends. I had to mock up my entire fuel system just so I could get an approximate location of where my support braces go on the trunk. I lost the old ones when I replaced the pan years ago so I had to "guesstimate" where the hell they had to go. Once I got a location I welded them in place......lying on my back. I guess I don't need to tell you guys how much fun that was. Lets just say my favorite pull-over and t-shirt are ruined. What an absolute pain in the ass. I reassembled everything Saturday to verify that I did it right and it checked out. Whew! I have the whole rear suspension out of the car. Started sanding the underside to prepare for the bedliner coating that's going on. I'm also revisiting my differential and leaf springs. The 3" dropped springs I got from DS&E look like they've been played with by pack of pit bulls before Kyle shipped them to me. I spent a better part of yesterday wirebrushing and grinding them down. Then I will top coat them and my rear axle and leaf springs with Chassiscoat Black. Has anyone else recieved springs from DS&E that were rough looking? These were nasty. Although I don't think it's DS&E's fault since they're manufactured by Eaton. I have some loose ends to tie up on the front suspension, finish my firewall, have some parts bead blasted and them painted and I'm all set to go for the 5th. After much deliberation, I've decided to go with my original theme and that is to paint the car black with the Wheel Vintiques billet ralleys. I just can't resist black. I love the '67/'68 body style in black...it's just so "classic". And in the end what it boiled down to was...I wanted more of a muscle car look rather than a show car.
Anyway...that's my update. I'm approaching the top of the mountain. After paint it's all down hill. Stay tuned for pictures in the next couple of months. I'll post them as I get them.
