I finally got a chance to start tearing down the car. I also gutted the interior except for the steering column which I will need to roll the car around. Debating on how I am going to actually strip the paint off the car. I'm really interested in seeing how much bondo is actually on this thing. I already found one of the cowls dented in so I will attempt to do a little "body work" on it and see how much of it I can straighten myself. Wish me luck!

I remember the take apart stage.... Ah the dirt everywhere. Part of the fun is the surprises you discover that you did not know were there. Keep us posted on the progress.

Body work is not all that hard, Just wipe the bondo prtty much how you want it to look, Nice and clean, Then take a block and some 80 grit and sand it.. Good luck!

Now let's see how good we are at puttin' her back together! My friend JonnyR and I spent a little time with the Nova trying to get her closer to the paint stripping and, in my opinion, we got pretty much done. Here are some pics on the progress:

Just a little update to the last one I posted. I finally got most of the shell of the car stripped and, at least to me, it doesn't look all that bad. What do you think? Shoudl I scrap it and look for a car in better condition?

Looks like I may have to cut out the Drivers side A pillar. It's pretty rotten!

Passenger side A pillar. Pretty much like the driver side but with the "expert" body work.

Passenger side rear quarter. Notice the "expert" welding!

Rear window lower channel.

Please let me know if you think the rot is too extensive to consider going on with this body and if I should look for another body that is in better shape.

Thanks,

John

If that's all of the rust, it doesn't seem bad to me. That rot below the window is fairly typical and not a big deal to replace. It looks like you might have to cut out and replace that A-pillar, though.

On another note, do you know if Wayne D. answers emails? I sent him one re: the suspension stuff I was talking to you about and haven't heard back.

:lmao:Yeah, I know......Wayne is SUPER busy so there are times when he doesn't get to his e-mail right away. I guess it's hard to type and weld at the same time:lol: Same thing happened to me! Just be patient and he'll get back to you.

As soon as I have started on it, I'll post some pics. I'll be taking photos every step of the way. It's probably going to be another month or so before I get started on it, so right now she's just sitting under a car cover in the driveway--not too exciting...

Isn't that just a beautiful piece of welding?!? Whoever did the "welding" on this car obviously didn;t have too many hours on the mig!

Novanut,
Do you need A pillars? I chopped up a 65 hardtop and still have some body parts laying around.

Looks like they tried to weld while typing.

Gonzo: Will they fit a 66? If so how much?

Damn: Yeah and with their thumbs missing!
