Pull up a seat with some pop corn and watch this video! Take 1 corner wrong and you are DEAD! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7PC5X0u4H60&search=pikes%20peak
I dont know anything about the engine but I would estimate close to 1000hp AWD to keep it on the road.

The part at around 3:30 when he puts his hand up to block the sun just puts knots in my stomach. Thats suicidal!!! No guard rails! NOTHING next to the side of the road. Awesome to watch indeed but that is one race event where you could easily die each day you go up there.
If you want to experience the same exact thing without dying go buy Rallisport Challenge 2 for the xbox. Incredible game with all types of rally including hill climbs exactly like this.

Umm....that much less scary when viewed by the out of car cameras!

The in car and on car stuff is plain "nut sucking up and getting stuck in there somewhere" scary!

He definitely needed a sun visor and wheel mounted paddle shifting! Strange how in the eighties driving without little "conveniences" like those was the norm. Clutches and gear shifts, with one hand on the wheel and 1000 foot drop 3 inches away!

My thought exactly...

you are really not very likely to die if you go off the side on pikes peak, there are lots of boulders to stop you on the way down. people go off fairly often and rarely die at the pikes peak rallies.

What did you expect? The driver is from Finland... :1st:

Seriously though, I guess you have to be a little bit crazy to drive like that :drive2:

Yeah, parts of it are paved now.

I live at the foot of that mountain, and have been up there many times. The part that gets my attention is "Blue sky corner"......that's because all you can see is sky. You don't want to go off there.....but as mentioned above, you won't go too far down.....the boulders will stop you.

Ever since the major companies pulled out of racing on the Peak, the 10 minute barrier has not been broken. The weather conditions have to be just right too.

It often snows in July up there, with hail too.
