the local JC has a few welding classes. Would taking more than 1 be bad? Will I go blind or something if I do it 6 days a week? ;)

they have intro to: OxyAct, ARC, and Tig. 3 seperate classes.

What school is this? Do they offer any weekend classes?Ya they have one of the classes on a saturday. Its College of the Canyons in Santa Clarita. And I could also do this stuff at the local city occupational center. http://www.nvoc.org/ I took a machining class there when I was in Jr. High.

Are you serious about the 'going blind' thing? There's a whole lot of people that weld for a living (not fabrication, just welding all day long) and are just fine after doing it for years and years.

They don't offer a MIG class? I wouldn't bother with the oxy/fuel class at all, and the stick class only if you plan on welding piping.

Take a mig/tig class, you won't regret it.

And no doing it 6 days a week won't hurt a thing, this is why we wear those not so fashionable helmets with the dark lense. :slap:

I just finished an intro to welding course at my JC which included oxy and stick as main areas of focus. I plan to take the full MIG course next but from someone with zero fab skills or mechanical skills at that and am more of an enthusiast I enjoyed it and would recommend it as a base to build from so you know the basics.
