Has anyone used this engine? Seems like a great deal for $7100 for 470hp. Are there any downsides to using a LQ7 instead of a LS2 motor besides the iron block? link, http://www.turnkeyenginesupply.com/Street/60470.htm
Thanks for any feedback.

My bad, LQ9 not LQ7 as the title says.

Tough to say w/o seeing dyno sheets. See if you can get them to send you sheets for the LQ and the comparitive LS motor.

I know that guys who are using a lot of boost (either supercharging or turbo) tend to lean toward the iron blocks

honestly unless you are dead set on the "crate engine" thing i would go elsewhere. Not only does it look fugly but 470 crank hp is extremely easy with gen3/4 engines.

If you wana do things cheap to get the same hp, find a used iron short block (i remember seeing a lot <$1000) get some ported heads a decent cam and the accessories and harness from a f body ls1.

Remember not only is it much taller because of the truck intake (longer runners so more low end) but the accessories sit more forward of the engine so less radiator clearance and a different pan because the truck pan is waaay too deep.
