I'm inspired by that new LS346/440 crate engine they stuffed into that firebird on the recent Overhaulin'. Anyone had a chance to see it yet?

I have a few questions. Would this application be inherently easier to install than a fuel injected version? Do you still have to run a computer with it? I don't need fuel injection, and I have neither the time nor the patience to be farting around with a stupid computer....having to plug a lap top into it....get it tuned properly....screw that noise. This one has really grabbed my attention. And I like the price too.

Talk to me. Whatda ya got?

For the budget minded, I would considering getting an LS2 takeout from a wrecked vehicle. Now that they're 60-2 crank wheels it "should" (haven't researched it enough to guarantee) be a snap to set up an older electromotive "ignition only" setup and then just buy the intake and put your carb on. The electromotive units turn up used all the time and the late model truck engines can be had for a pretty small change.

Or, for those of us that would eventually like to go EFI, get a newer system but just set it up for ignition-only until you're ready to plumb an EFI fuel system. You won't have the 440hp to start out with, but you'll have a much more flexible platform, and should have a lower initial investment. The big hangup with earlier LS engines was that goofy 24x crank wheel, without that you have a LOT of options.
