it looks perfect just how it is, old chalkboard paint and all. i've been called crazy but i wouldn't even touch the body if it didn't have rust or dents. i love the look of a matte paint and polished trim/ wheels.

Just looking at the rear shot, I wonder if anyone has ever thought about doing a 4 door El Camino. Could be cool.

Wagons are cool. That one is straight and a very solid starting point. Looks good already!
Oh, and make sure you get an '04 or later 4.8, more power!

Almost as if we can change the name of the siter to Pro-Wagons:rotfl:. Nice ride, what better to go "touring" in than a goon?
Very nice. I want to do a wagon soon. Hey Bill, are we twins separated at birth??? So far every car you've done or want to do is the same as mine. I got a wagon project that I'm looking to unload (CHEAP)...OK hijack off.

LOL Rubes, great to know others think outside the box too. I love all cars, so it is very easy for me to want something else. I need to FINISH what I have now, before I drag anything else home.:hammer:

Wagons are the coolest....I will be beginning my pro-touring project on my Malibu wagon in the next week. I have already purchased the Hotchkis suspension, Air Technologies kit, and my 4 wheel disc 13" Baer brakes just arrived yesterday. Then I will be ordering my Intro rims 18" all around. As soon as I begin I'll start posting pics. Here's a before pic...for now

If you're concerned about mileage and still want performance I noted in another thread I'd like to see someone drop a modern diesel like a Duramax in one of these. It's be different, powerful and mileage would be outstanding.

I picked this one up a couple summers ago. I haven't started any work on it, but should probably get moving on it since it is big enough to hold my three kids and one friend for each them. Solid car overall. needs suspension rebuild, bigger brakes, engine overhaul and paint. I'm thinking two tone light and dark green.

One thing to remember with wagons is that parts are not easy to find, so you have to be sure it's all there when you start unless your doing a Chevelle, Impala or in my case a mid 80's Malibu where parts can bet found from many different sources such as Monte ss, Buick, Olds and El Camino stuff are all interchangable....But all wagons are sweet. Here's a cool plate idea for one "WAYGONE"

I'd like a woodgrain wagon, like a 1972 torino, to build like that.
Keep the woodgrain, but have the contrasting colour be some crazy house of colour color. Oh, and different style woodgrain is allowed, too...

Clean is mean, but if you PT this wagon more than customizing it, several race venues and some sanctioning bodies (like Silver State) require that you have external door handles for safety reasons.
I'd considered this for my '67 until I learned about the rules...
Also- Look to factory El Camino SS tailgates for inspiration. I like the clean-and-mean look, but I've been on the fence about what to do with the tailgate trim on the '67 as well. I may do something with an SS flavor. It's worth investigating to nail the look you're after. I'm shooting for a '60s-era road race style (not as apparent now as it will be..).

I am in the process of building a Jason Rushforth designed 1967 Buick Skylark Sportwagon with some GS options. The chassis is completed with full ART airride / tubular upper control arms/ Wilwood Brakes/ Big sway bars etc. 18" and 20" Intros but also have a set of Budnik gassers. The body has had a lite shave and is about ready for paint. Ice Blue with a pearl white roof and a retro interior by Ol Skool Customs. The 462 C.I. buick 455 with a turbo 400 . The frame is done waiting for the body. We own a Custom Powder Coating job shop and have every available part powder coated. This will be our show car for 2008 selected Good-Guys events .
The wagon is in Super Rod magazine this month October 2007 . Special thanks to Buckaroo Publications and Josh Mishler for the great debut story.

Sorry if this has been already asked or pointed out. But why do the wheels not match on the passenger side? Looks to me like the front wheel is on the wrong side. Other than that I think it looks great. Reminds me of my childhood. My parents had one similar, & about the same color.

Had a couple minutes waiting for prints to finish...here's an idea:
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
You could probably graft in a door and window from an elcamino. The only problem is getting the rear glass and extending the window trim.
Don't mind the awful wheel chop in there. They were first ones I found and spent about 3 seconds throwing them in.
Radlark
12-05-2006, 01:08 PM
Ben why did you have to go and do that? Now Iam on craigslist looking for an el camino!!!:hand: Dude that looks wicked! I wonder actually HOW much work that would be to pull this off?
hdesign
12-05-2006, 01:22 PM
My best educated and scientific estimation is.....A WICKED LOT....(sorry, that's the Mass-speak coming through:hammer:).
Seriously though, it's doable. Time and money my friend. The key is not reinventing the wheel as much as possible. You may need to use the whole rear door jamb+door of an Elcy to do it, but I sure haven't seen one of these around yet.
I don't have the car in front of me but I'm sure any glass or high quality tinted Lexan guy can cut (and shape if it's not flat) that glass from an accurate template. I extended the window but left the original wheelbase and rear section alone. Of course, that's photoshop.
I hate to say it but you're life would probably be easier if you started with an Elcy and added the rear roof, tailgate and windows from a wagon than adding the doors and jambs from an Elcy to a wagon.
Radlark
12-05-2006, 01:40 PM
