Any thoughts on Quick Connect steering wheels as a theft deterrent?

I just bought a Momo Millenium wheel for my 68 Camaro. In the process of adapting it, was wondering about a quick connect to detach the steering wheel (to prevent, or slow down, car theft). Any thoughts on this? Are quick connect wheels safe for long-term street use? Is it an acceptable theft deterrent? Any crash safety issues?

I know that it extends the steering wheel out, but I would actually welcome this as I'm 6'2" and my seats are set 2" back anyhow.

Here are the QC's I am considering:
FR20130-6OEPL Wheel Popper 6 Bolt GM Column
$150 6 bolt pattern for 1 3/4"...Pretty.

(requires $15 adapter)
-or-
$99 but requires additional adapter (GM to Momo).

(This one requires an additional $30 adapter)

Thanks in advance for your thoughts/info!

I'm planning a long trip this summer in my '68 and am trying to come up with a "layered" approach to protecting the car from theft. My current plan is to use a remote keyed hood lock that incorporates a starter interrupt and a remote battery disconnect with a hidden switch for routine pit stops and meals and, at night, a keyed quick disconnect steering wheel and, maybe, a relatively inexpensive version of the Denver boot. I may be paranoid, but given the thefts recently reported I'd rather feel foolish than end up walking home.

All ive got to input is that a determined thief could rip the platic cover off the steering wheel removerer thingy, and then pop a set of vice grips on there and hes out....

I have the Grant GT steering system with the disconnect wheel. I have to layer my anti-theft stuff also. The remote kill switches and alarms in addition to parking the car in a place that has high traffic with cameras at a quality hotel will help greatly. Anything to slow a thief down and make him/her think if the car is worth the effort.

I have the steering wheel popper from Flaming River. The car isn't quite done yet, so I haven't driven it yet. I have a new tilt column from FR and a have a Momo Tuner (?) steering wheel. The popper bolts up to the Momo wheel fine, but I don't think the black faced allen head screws from Momo were the right thread pitch. I think I used the screws that came from FR. I think the popper is fine. Multiple pins line up the two halves of the popper and then there are two small pins that actually hold the popper on. However, I can't figure out how to make the horn button from Momo work with the popper. It a little complicated to explain. I can post some pictures if there's interest.

I can say this, Both my best friend and I in highschool tested the crashworthiness of the grant removable steering wheel system. No problems.

My freinds truck was broken into, and they made a failed attempt to break the cover off. They DESTROYED everything else in the cab of the truck, but didnt make off with the whole thing.

I would like to see some pictures. Was installation relatively simple? Does the connect action look/feel stable?
I am also considering these guys:

Anyone know of or have used another type/brand?
I know Sparco and Grant both make one. Grant's can only be used with a Grant steering wheel.

Ordered the Tekniq.

Reasoning: Anytime I take my car anywhere (Like to eat) I check on it every five minutes (It would be easy to steal). This is that extra piece of mind necessary to relax. Therefore I have to go with a quick connect.

Why Tekniq: Tekniq because it was a straight across adapt from 68 Camaro to Momo Wheel and requires a secondary key to operate.

I'll let you know how it works out...

I'm expecting my Tekniq setup any day now. Latest tracking info from UPS says it will be here tomorrow. They must be in Nome or something, because it has been enroute via UPS ground for 6 business days.

I'll post up my impressions ...

Canada always takes forever.

I had mine 2-Day aired, supposed to be here tomorrow. With my luck, it'll get stopped at customs, taken out to the desert and detonated.

Well the Tekniq Quick Disconnect came in today. It's a sturdy little unit. Looks to be well made and (thankfully) not too 'bling!'. I have built everything up but not attached it to the car yet (that's tonight). The hub is a collapsible hub, I'm glad I spent the money on the hub, it will be safer.

2 observations:
1) There is a 1/2" thick Al spacer that adapts from the quickconnect portion to the steering wheel. This means I will be carrying a little more when I disconnect the steering wheel and carry it with me. Also means the steering wheel will move a 1/2" further out than the one that I have now plus the 4" (or so) for the quick connect.

2) I actually like the 'lock' feature. I was unsure about this as it seems a little unnecessary. BUT, since the steering wheel 'locks' on with a key, if I decide not to disconnect the wheel no one else can come along and just take the wheel (to either get a really nice steering wheel or come back later and steal the car).

They actually included the wrong size screws for attaching the adapter to the removable piece of the disconnect. Had to go to Home Depot to get some 6M 16mm...then grind them down about 2 thread lengths (16mm too long, 10mm too short, nothing in between).

Will install tonight. If anyone watching is interested in pictures let me know. So far I would highly recommend these (though they are pricey)...
