yeah, the venom glands are usually in the back of the skull which gives them the triangular shape.

I'm 99.999% sure that snake is not venemous (okay, I'm 100%, but I don't want to be held liable for anything, haha).

I think what you have there is a bullsnake, but I'm not the best at identifications, and I can't see the head well enough (it might also be a gopher snake, or perhaps a simple corn snake -- need better pics of the head, with the mouth closed).

You didn't kill that snake, did you?

The rule of thunb about the triangular head is iffy, coral snakes and some other venomous snakes have bullet heads, and some non venomous snakes like boas have triangular heads.

Also , many non venomous snakes still deliver a nasty bite, it just wont kill you. A boa bit me once and hurt more than it should have for a few small holes.

Being in Florida and based on the markings...I can say with some certainty that you killed a member of the rat snake family: Grey Ratsnake to be more specific. Completely harmless and actually make good pets.

We had this one in our backyard about 3 years ago. Our Jack Russell Terrier attacked it and was bitten. Not poisonous, but still had a nasty bite. It was ~3 feet long. That dog was awesome....we took her to the vet that day, and after them working on her for about an hour, and with her lampshade thingy on her head, the second we got home she went tearing out into the backyard right to where the snake was. She was ready for Round 2 :box:

I live in FL you can trust me!!!!

i used to play in a wooded area next to my dads shop, early in the AM I'd go to a flat muddy area and watch the Rattlers go by in heards like Cattle, scary, and then sometimes I'd run over them on my motorcycle!!

Now the head on that does sort of tlook venomous, and if it is in fact a water moccasion I believe those are quite poisonous

Water Moccasion would have killed a JRT, I heard stories from my vet how a lab ate its front legs off after being bit by one,

Yea the kook from animal control that came out to our house to get the snake said it was a Bull Snake (not poisonous apparently). I'm sure that our dog would've been in far worse shape had it been poisonous. But we lived on a creek at the time, so there were plenty of water moccasins around. We've even seen a 3-and-a-half-foot copperhead back behind our house one time. Scary stuff...snakes creep me out.

The best part was when we asked the guy from animal control what they were gonna do with the snake, and he told us that they go to a "controlled release site" outside city limits and let it go. Fantastic. That way it will be back in 2 weeks and we can have another $400 vet bill. That's when I started to regret not just toasting that little *$#%@#* with a 12-gauge before animal control ever got there.

That's one of the worst feelings: has anyone ever been hunting or just out in the woods and come up on a snake or even stepped on it? That is a phenomenally bad feeling, especially when you're out in the middle of nowhere and have no idea if it's poisonous. :help!:

I went through the eastside of Texas, pick up Shuttle parts acouple of years ago and you wouldn't believe how aggressive Cooper heads and Moccasins are, I have seen 3 Moccasins go after a group of 20 people, and cross a lake to do it!!!
