I see a lot more Monte Carlos and Lagunas lately that sound and look as tricked out as any late 60's car.

mid/late 70's cars are becoming hot and there about the only thing afordable anymore....I want to build something new but the prices have rocketed even since I bought my camaro 4 years ago. I would have to sell it to build something new......

I've had about a half dozen 76-80 Mopar F bodies (Aspen/Volare) in the past decade. I've never paid more than $100 for any of them and a couple were "come and get and they're yours" offers. Some have been pretty rough, others have been very solid. They take to the same kind of mods that any of the traditional muscle era cars respond to and I love the fact that they are different enough make poeple think, yet use enough commn parts that there is plenty of aftermarket for most of what I want to do with them.

I'm not sure I could afford my 67 right now.

It seems to me like sort of a natural progression of what's affordable. 60's stuff is so crazy expensive now, you have to go newer to build an affordable project. Eventually (sooner than later, judging by the second-gen market over the last couple years), we'll see more 80's cars, then 90's cars....

The biggest issue out here in California is the emmissions. Right now, it's not horrible, but there always seems to be some stupid legislation attempting to make the rules more strigent, which would mean that a non-smog exempt car would have to have all of the original smog equipment, as well as run clean. That makes it a tough decision to consider anything later than a 73 for certain, and earlier in some cases.
I will agree though, the prices on cars is nuts, in some cases ludicrous. There was a guy at a local show that was attempting to sell a 69 Camaro with a 502 in it. The car was really clean, had nice paint, etc, a really nice car. But it had basically stock suspension (not a Lateral Dynamics 3-Link, thats for sure!), and the usual host of higher end bolt on stuff. $90k. Um, no thanks.

I run an early 80's car that noone would ever think to trick out.
Wait till it's done.
