Has anyone used this MSD fuel pump? I am running a 5.3L vortec in my 68 camaro and I am needing to pick up an external fuel pump.
Any other recommendations.

What fuel pressure does the 5.3 need? I thought the newer LS engines were up at ~60 psi. If that's the case, I don't think that's the pump for you. I'd look at Speed and Performance or maybe Magnuson (sp?) and their line of Magnacharger stuff - maybe they've got a pump for that?

Sorry, I meant to say Street and Performance earlier...

Try here:
http://www.hotrodlane.cc/

They're very helpful - might be worth a phone call.

Also here:
http://www.magnacharger.com/pdf/manual-GMTruckSUV1999-02.pdf

Pages 43 and 44 cover the fuel pump install - they might be able to help you figure out what you need.

FWIW, I sold a Holley external FI pump to friend of mine with a 5.3L/Radix 01 Silverado and he hasn't had any problems.

Andrew, if the 2225 pump will work for your application, let me know. I have one sitting around the garage that I am not using anymore (had about 200 miles on it) that you could get a really good deal on.

i would just get the walbro gsl 392. you can get em from almost anywhere ebay is like $110. ive got 2 of them supporting 850hp (supposedly) the 255 is actually an upgrade for the stock ls1 pump

i just won an auction for a 5.3 for my 68 last night on ebay. i've read countless articles on the 5.7 swap in to a 1st gen. have you run in to any gotchas or unique problems w/ the 5.3?

thanks,
shane

It is basically a LS1 engine. So far from what I have found out there isn't any problems that you should run into. I know it has taken me some time figuring out what I will need to make it work. Did you buy a 5.3? or 5.7? You have both sizes in your post.

i bought 5.3 w/ 4l60e

it was a bit cheaper than 5.7,
& w/ a little less hp, it may keep me out of some trouble

andrew, do you know if ls1/ls6 intake manifold will fit 5.3?

Yes, the 5.3 will gladly accept any parts designed for the 5.7 (except maybe the pistons). The gen3 engines are just as interchangeable as the gen1 engines.

Check out Napa for an external fuel pump, I have one on my bench at work that I use for transferring fuel; it is a classic retro pump for FI. I believe it specs at 65PSI and cost about 90 bucks. Maybe a lifetime warranty to boot.

yes it will fit. I remember reading on here or LS1 tech or somewhere that the 5.3 intakes are actually an ok intake and just as good as a LS1 intake. Now for the overall cool factor, LS1 intake has it!
I am going to probably swap out the plastic coverings to the 6000 vortec off of the 05' trucks. it covers up more wiring. Thats the plans for now.

andrew, did you have any hood clearance issues w/ the taller intake?
