Awesome!! My dad had a Z06 the first year they came out (2001...not 1967...although that would've been sweet too), and that is still the fastest car I've ever been in. It was so bad a** to drive. He totalled it after he had it about a year and a half though...that was a crappy day :crying: I can't even imagine how crazy the new ones must be.

I guess you have not read the form rules.

There are plenty of places on the net to view and discuss that which is illegal, dangerous to innocent non-participants, stupid and proves nothing.
This is not one of them.

You do not, that is fine. However, some may and in this country where people sue over any stupid reason the moderartors felt it prudent to impose this rule. If it offends you, I am sorry, but that is the rule.
It has nothing to do with PC. It has everything to do with damage prevention.

Rule makes sense to me. Regardless of whether or not having such a video posted here will cause us to go out and street race, we want to discourage such postings. Think about it...
Street racing is a very visible thing... it is reported on in the news when people die and innocent people are run over. Or, you see video of hundreds of hoodlum teens lining the street and running from police, possibly doing drugs and breaking other laws at the same time.
Street racing, and publicity of street racing, reflects poorly upon the hot rodding hobby in general, even those of us who do not street race.
Therefore, the visible minority who do street race wind up giving the hobby as a whole a bad reputation... By allowing such videos to be posted on our site just makes it look as though we promote this sort of behavior. It just adds fuel to the fire of those who want to put further regulations and restrictions upon the hobby. In addition, this reckless behavior causes the insurance industry to charge higher premiums for people driving hot rods and for individuals in the stereotyped age range of most street racers.

I am not going to argue about the link on this site, that is the mod's deal.
Buuuuut, you guys are telling me that if you were out in your "Pro-Touring" car (that handles better, stops quicker, has more power, and is faster, Definition of PT!), and it is a lonely wide straight road with no side roads and such, that you won't blast it!?!? Or if there is a dude in another car that wets your whistle and it pulls up next to you and wants to play, that you won't "play" too?!?!? I don't buy it! :poke: I am not condoning street racing, but I am also not going to be a hipocryte (sp?) about it either, I do know the reality of the situation.

Are you willing to bet your money on it? Anyone can sue anyone for any reason, they just have to prove it. Also, someone needs to defend said charges. If not they lose by default. It is one of the risks, we as mods, decided we did not want the site exposed to.

Shmoove, that exact point was brought up when we were discussing how to handle street racing videos. That is why this sentance was put in: Any videos containing said content are eligible for removal by a moderator, if the content is deemed unbecoming, per their discretion. That is a grey area.

You know what Brian next time I'm in Colorado I'm going to a court house and I'm going to sue you for not letting me put what I want on a site that I'm a member of, how do you like that!! freedom of speech, but does that cover the internet
That sounds as stupid as "do you want to bet your money on it"
I just for ****s and grins I think I will talk to a lawyer to see what they say about the internet and lawsuits!!
and yes I have friends in CO,I'm there often, Lakemont, Littleton, Denver, Boulder, I've skied everywhere, and 4 wheeled all over!!!
But you know what, the Video is STUPID you have 2 PHUKIN morons racing down a well traveled Hiway, I don't think it's a issue of street racing, I think its turning into a censorship issue, 5th admenment if I remember right
Damn True
04-20-2006, 08:50 PM
Actually, the 1st & 5th amendment does not apply in a privately owned environment.
You do not have the right to free speech in my living room. Nor do you have the right to free speech standing in cigar shop. You do not have a right of freedom of censorship from your boss do you? Your boss can and does censor not only what you can say, but what you can see.
This website, like most other privately owned forums are owned content. It belongs to whomever is the big kahuna 'round here. Larry if I'm not mistaken. He owns it, he sets the rules. Just as if you were in my living room, if he dosen't like what you have to say, he can have you removed.
I can find you the case law to support that if you like.

Since this is my thing, I'm gonna break it down like this.
People like us have fast cars and, on occasion, drive them fast. It's what our cars are for, no one denies the purpose behind a pro-touring car. The point is, we dont want videos of YOU doing it. Posting links of others doing it is encoraging others, MEMBERS, from makeing the "pro-touring.com" version. And I don't want that. It aint happening period. Before too long, somone would get killed trying to be a video hero on our site for our enjoyment. And potentially, we'd get sued. It has happend before, and frankly we cannot afford to defend ourselves if it were to happen.
So, for the time being, vids like that one arent allowed. End of discussion. Have a vid you would like to share? PM the link to me or one of the mods and I'll decide. There is a difference between "wreckless street racing" and driving fast. Thats the call we make.
Oh, and true is right, It's our site and by becoming a member you agreed to have your posts edited or deleted (censored if you will) by mods. Simple.

Steve you are not getting the point. Tony and True have summed it up nicely. It has nothing to do if someone can win the action because more then likely they will not. It is protection from the action from starting in the first place.
We have all heard about stupid lawsuits and questioned why anyone would sue for that reason. It was because they can.

Part of the problem is, even a frivolous suits often cost money just to go away. Almost ALL insurance and medical suits are mediated to a point where a "settlement"(Read $$$$) is reached, just to save both sides ALOT more money if the case actually went to trial.
I know that I would be up a creek if some crafty lawyer brought even a false suit/claim against me. There is just no way that I could afford to defend myself.

k... here's my thoughts.
I actually like the fact that street racing is not encouraged here. I have seen sites that let it go rampant and after a while you'll see every flippin' post that contains a stupid kid with a camera hanging out the window while zipping through traffic. Legality or not isn't the point for me. This is a classy web site that many of us enjoy mainly because the folks that post up here know that installing a 5” tach in front of their steering wheel will not give them a net gain of 75 hp.
And cholulla rocks.

Street racing videos = bad
Some vids of someone speeding = subject to approval by a mod. (depends on traffic conditions)
All other car vids should be ok.
